Okay, I'm a sports guy, so it is my duty to get involved here.

While I'm not a racing fanatic, I occasionally watch. Not CART, not Forumla 1, but NASCAR. I just like it a lot better for some reason. Ever since the split, Formula 1 and CART haven't been able to compete with NASCAR anyway...

NASCAR - I like the cars and the contact but oval tracks? left turn, straight, left turn, straight, left turn...
I can't believe people actually play computer games built round this format?
I can kind of understand why they might want to do it for real, kinda, maybe...

    Night all...

Except that one time with Jaques Villeneuve, M Schumacher has never violated any rules. He never went off his line more than 1 time. Unlike D. Coulthard who did it 3 times last race, and knowing he was the one whining about so called dangerous accidents that Schumacher did but which were completely legal...

Damon Hill did the same thing to Schumi that Schumi did to Villeneuve and at the time of Prost and Senna there were much more dangerous situations and nobody even wondered about them. It seems m Schumacher can only do things wrong.

Maybe it's because the UK ppl think the F1 is theirs and they see that they have no real good driver (Button seems ok though he hasn't got the right additude).

Actually it is Francherchamps... Spa is only bigger and lays close to Francherchamps so they called it Spa-Francherchamps

You can actually go on a part of teh track with a normal car... Pretty cool. Taking those curbstones

Christophe is right in saying that Schumacher has not broken any rules apart from that time, and he was penalised for that. He had to pay a fine and do some charity work on road safety. He has however, stretched them to the limit. Rather than blame Shumi like a lot of the other driver do, what needs to be done is the rules need to be more closely specified so that if the drivers should notr be doing something the rules say so and there is no room for manouvre.

I think you are thinking of CART and the IRL split, not F1.

At the risk of sounding ignorant - what is this NASCAR you are all going on about?

It's oval so the race cars can go faster.

Ah, it's okay. I might sound ignorant when I say I know nothing about European and Australian sports like Rugby, Cricket, etc.

I know NASCAR stands for something, but it has slipped my mind.

    lol

Rugby and cricket are one of the less popular sports around here (West Europe)

absolutely most popular is football (soccer), tennis, Racing (F1 and other) and cycling.

Marc - the point I was trying to make was that oval tracks must be real boring to drive!? (and watch for that matter)
If I wanted speed I'd go watch a drag race...

But I guess its like most things - down to personal preference!

I think -although they weren't designed for that- Formula 1 cars would still be pretty quick on ovals. Maybe even faster than Indys

Yes, I was. Thanks for pointing that out and my appologies.

Well, I haven't had the chance to drive a race car yet (hehe), but I would do it for however many million these guys get. I think you could make an equal argument in MOST sports. Basketball - putting a ball through a hoop, soccer - getting a ball in the goal. Might seem boring to some, but once you get into the game, the strategy and competition take over!

I guess you are right - I've played both those sports and like 'em both for different reasons (but when push comes to shove it has to be B-Ball!) - I have only 'driven' these tracks in race-sims and found the NASCAR sim completely yawn-o-matic compared to something like NFS4 or Grand Prix Legends???
Maybe one day I will get on a track!??? (dreeeeaam...)

Michael Schumacher has the biggest salary and the biggest 'merchandising' revenue of all sports men in the world at the moment
