I need a dedicated NT server. Since we are only starting with a new site, much bandwith is not necessary and once the traffic grows, paying the extra for it is not a problem. We will also use SQL7 to run a complicated database, so server performance is important.

Well, basically I am looking for recommendations from anyone who had experience with certain dedicated/co-location hosts. If anyone knows hosts that I should beware of, that is helpful as well.

I know Site Point uses RackSpace.com. I'm not sure of many other hosts related to what you want, so try doing a search at:

well for NT hosts and if you don't mind a 12 month contract, dellhost.com would be the better choice..

then there's rackspace.com, digitalnation.com to choose from. currently i am with rackspace.com for a linux server

btw, i thought efront.com would provide all the necessary hardware and hosting support for your needs ? this has me confused cause they contacted me and that's the impression i got ?

I should've mentioned that price is a big factor for me. I know big names like RackSpace and DigitalNation are great but their rates are too high for me. I've looked through those host directories and I think they are nothing but listings (many are paid) and that doesn't tell me on the company's performance.

Yes, eFront does provide hosting, PSX Extreme is located on a dedicated server now. I am not looking to host PSX Extreme though, we are doing something new.

Did anyone have any experience with nsiweb.com?

    Thanks

Actually, the price is important. Those big names offer more expensive solutions.
Have you ever heard of "You get what you pay for."?

When it comes to dedicated server, it comes ture. Rackspace.com ,digitalnation.com and such offer good support.(You have to sometimes pay for the support.)
If you are thinking of having your own dedicated server, it means you are serious. So, please do not go for cheap solution. It will only hurt your site. Also do not go for plans that are "Too good to be true."

It's my 2 cents so if you do not agree or like, please just forget what I said.

well i have been with rackspace for nearly 4 months now and have never had to pay for support ... and i use alot of support tickets etc etc and it's always free... not sure if it's still the same, but with rackspace.com for the first 5 domains, they can setup totally for free, etc...

well on the cheaper end there's catalog.com and dialoneinternet.com

I'd recommend Superb Internet ( http://www.superb.net ) as a dedicated host. Good service from what I've heard all around, and a top notch NOC that I had a friend of mine visit just yesterday. Also their pricing is much better than others such as rackspace and DN. They have a propaganda page on that at http://services.superb.net/unix/ded-comp.shtml I've verified and it's true. Again, it's for Linux, but same holds true for NT.

Also if you use Linux, their Superb Power Server Virtual Private Server platform is cool and one of a kind. Just $80 a month for full root access, your own dedicated, isolated, kernel, etc. But, that's linux, not NT.

I'm still new in the biz, but I saw in another forum dedicatedhosting.com. The prices on the site were fair but when I called in a got a very good quote with no setup. So far the service seems good......

You DEFINITELY will get what you pay for (eventually anyway).

I looked at Rackspace, digitalNation and a few others; opted for Virtualis. My site does around 1,000,000 page views per month and has not been down for one second since making the move. What's funny is that when it was 'virtually' hosted by Virtualis, it did go down about once every two weeks for a few minutes. The product I have with them is called the DEDA2 for $400 per month.

I would say unless you are ready to fork out about a grand for initial costs for dedicated hosting, go with a host that can hopefully support what you are looking for.

    Good luck,
    Tim
