Thread: New To Advertising...
-
Sep 23, 2000, 20:35 #1
I am new to the advertising world, I guess you could say. I have a website that gets an average of 300 hits between Monday and Friday, and it then goes to an average of 500 on Saturday and Sunday (I have a football site). So, I have a couple of questions, that I hope I can get some feedback on.
How much would be a good monthly rate for a 468 x 60, 120 x 60, and 88 x 31 banner?
How many paid advertisers should be in rotation?
Any other tips, or websites to check out?
Thanks in advances...
PS: My site is http://www.finheaven.com/

First, let me say that you should use AdCycle to manage your ads. It's absolutely amazing. Free too! http://www.adcycle.com/ It requires MySQL...
Ok...you should charge by 1000 impressions or so. For 468x 60 banners, you should charge between 3 and 8 dollars per 1000 impressions you serve. AdCycle lets your advertisers log in and see how their campaigns are going in real time.

AdCycle is definitely good - only if you are able to install it...
I think, since your site is getting too high traffic yet, that you should consider charging advertising by time, not impressions - at least YET. That's what I'm doing with my site until we rack in around 100,000 impressions monthly or so.

You might want to read the article "Selling Advertising" on SitePoint.com -- you can use the site search to find it. It offers information on pricing ads, ad serving software, and a lot more.
