    Problem with padding in IE6

OK, so I just made a new page based on the list styling code from A List Apart and one of the identical header-menu-column layouts around. Anyway, here's the problem I run into. On IE6, when I set a padding attributes for my links in the menu bar (which are a tags with display:block set), the parent div gets wider! It's really crazy, nothing else seems to affect it except the padding on those a tags. However, having some space around the links is pretty important. Does anybody have any suggestions? I thought IE6 had finally gotten the box model right...

    Neither can I.

The page looks identical in Ie6 and mozilla 1.1.

OK, the problem is worse here: http://magus.res.cmu.edu (Yes, it is a dorm web page, I'm just using it to play with CSS layout a bit). The difference should be pretty dramatic here.

    Hi,

I couldn't see much difference between IE6 and Opera 6. Theres just a few pixels more space between the menu and the actual content.

However in Mozilla1.1 and netscape 6.2 for some reason the style sheet isn't working at all and all I get is the basic text.

I looked the other day and it was working except the picture wouldn't show up in MOzilla so I'm assuming theres some kind of problem there. When it was working MOzilla was more or less the same as Ie6 and I couldn't really see much difference. Not enough to worry about anyway.

    Sorry can't be more helpful.

    Paul
