Would you use an online dating agency??

I'm currently in early discussions with a client regarding the creating of a dating agency site. One of the key factors we're looking at, is which age group to aim the site at.

So, in the interest of research, could you please vote whether or not you'd use an online agency, and also post your age if possible.

    Thank you

I voted No, I have thought about it (although never even gone to a site) probably because of all the bad things to hear about them and also I don't think too many people knowing loads of stuff about me before we meet.

BUT I do know a few people of my age (29) who do and have done.

My suggestion would be to aim it at the working profession type age so 25-35. I.e. when you either have children and can't get out much or you work to hard and don't get the chance to socialise enough.

Might be worth pm'ing Mak-uk as I know he has been working on creating an onlien dating agency type thing (for the php exercise) but he might have done some research into it also.

I voted "no"...I am well out of my teens - nosey bugger!

It does occur to me though that you may not get genuine results in a poll like this.

I know of at least 1 person (in her early 30's) who used online dating regularly. I know many more that have used newspaper ads (which aren't that different). I also know a lot of people who browse love@lycos.....

Errrr.... NO WAY!! I'm far too chicken to even entertain the thought of going to meet a total stranger that wasn't even a friend of a friend! I am also well out of my teens.

It's funny that so far almost everyone has said no, yet if you check any of them out, there a thousands of people that have signed up.

In the name of research (none of you are gonna believe that), my and two other guys at work have signed up on a few different sites, and there are people of all ages, from all over the world. Some of them are really hot too

Maybe all the people who DO use online dating agencies don't want to own up to it....

I would have to say no and I'm older than dirt. Besides if I did, my husband would divorce me.

Online dating agencies are like cyber bars IMO. There are rarely any long lasting relationships that come out of it.

I honestly believe these sites are doing more harm than good for most regardless of what they lead you to believe.

so do you think that for dating agencies in general or just the online ones?

Just curious as I can see that for some people (who don't ahve the time or are too shy) a dating agency can be just the thing. Its just a shame that most companies seem to rip you off money wise too..

Funnily enough, I do actually know someone who divorced his wife cos she had it away with an American chap she met on the Internet in a chat room. Actually, it was a group of about 10 people that regularly 'met up' online and chatted. That eventually lead to actually meeting up and then romance blossomed between two people that were both married and who's respective partners were both part of the group so they couldn't exactly hide it.... very messy and very embarassing. Let that be a lesson to you all!

Good question. Mainly online. Anybody can be impressed with words and can often times mislead people into thinking they have found that special person. But the actual proof of such comes from getting to know a person outside of cyberspace. I often heard more times than not that online dating agencies are a waste of time and most I know that were members were more often disapponted with the results. Now if a person is seeking friendship, someone to pal around with, thats different. I could see where this could be successful.

    Example:
I have a friend that got involved with someone online and it started with the chat, then the exchange of photos, and then the meeting. When she met this guy, he looked nothing like the guy in the picture. So naturally she was disappointed and the relationship never blossomed. Because of his looks? No. Simply because he lied. She was already attracted to him before the exchange of photos.

Its a bit like an advert running on TV at the moment - (its aimed to stop young children using chat rooms as they don't know who they are talking to) the ad phrase is people aren't always what they say they are. Which I think is very true.

I certainly would find an online dating agency more worrying than one where I could go and see people and see how they run it, I think I would feel that I have more control over it - that may be an illusion though

Either way I (at the moment) won't be doing either

So Moonman are you going to give us updates on how you get on? Now that you have joined?

I have two friends who used to meet people online at bars, etc. Let's just say that the girls they met didn't believe in "truth in advertising".

I'm not interested in dating any of the girls. I signed up purely for research at work.

Hey yourself! We just say it how we see it ....

So are you asking anywhere other than SP? It might just be that not SPers use dating boards. Doesn't make US the norm!
