    Help w/MYSQLadmin

    When I am trying to set the root password in Mysql I get this:

    Apache is running. I tried telnetting to it and same error.

    C:\mySQL\bin>mysqladmin -u root password "candg"
    mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
    error: 'Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)'
    Check that mysqld is running on localhost and that the port is
    You can check this by doing 'telnet localhost 3306'

    Any suggestions???

    You need to verify that you've set the root password to start.

    Start your command prompt and navigate to the mysql\bin then type:
    Code:
    mysql -u root mysql
    mysql> UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('new_password')
    	->			 WHERE user='root';
    mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
    The best way to verify that your mysql is running is to ctl->alt->delete go to the task manager then click the process tab and look to see something that starts with mysqld.
