    1. Lets say you get 1 million page views a month, that is your inventory.

If you sell 500,000 page views you've sold 50% of your inventory. Got it?

    2. No, but some banner ad networks (contentzone comes to mind) do not count just plain impressions, but rather some variation of uniques and banner views.

    3. See 4.

    4. You're like sitepoint. You put a media kit or advertising info on your main page, people go there, you tell them your rates, then they either contact you and buy inventory, or they dont. Only the biggest sites can do this, but even some of them, I'm talking in the top 100 of total websites, go through a network. And also sites with high targetted user bases, aka sitepoint, can do this as well.

    5. Pay per lead is one of the more rarer kinds of advertising. You do not get paid for views, you do not get paid for clicks, you get paid for people who click on the banner, browse the site they go to, and sign up for something or buy something or what have you. This method really does not favor the content publisher (thats you)

Well, inventory is the number of ad views that you can give per month.

2)Is there a difference between page views and impressions ?
Yes and no... If you have one ad per page then probably not... but basically, impressions are the numbers of ads displayed, adn pageviews are just people pulling up a page.

3)What do you mean by selling your own inventory ?
This means not using an advertising network or an advertising rep, but going out and cold calling advertising companies and doing the hard yards yourself

4)What does it mean to sell your own advertising space ?
    Sane as above

    5)What is pay-per-lead ?
Pay Per Lead is when a company pays you not only for a click through, but also for that user actually doing something (subscribing to a newsletter or doing a survey). Its not as hard as getting a sale and pays better than a click through so...

    Hope this helps,

    Adam

Well, I will have soon (see sig)...

In the meantime, there aren't really any books on the subject, and the only really useful sites are adres.internet.com (mentioned above) and TheAdStop.com
