    Hi,

I run a quiz on my site (over 4 weeks) and was wondering if there is any list management services I can use to input the email addresses of everyone that enters. That way whenever I update - it will send it to all entrants. Also I dont want everyone's email addresses displayed when I do send updates (like hotmail does with group emails)

    Thanks

There are a number of free list providers that can do this. I personally use eGroups to put out my newsletter, which is similar to what you want to do. Below, I listed a few of the better free mailing list hosts:

    http://www.listbot.com
    http://www.onelist.com

OneList and eGroups are actually one and the same now. I've used them before and am quite happy with their service. Tech support is slow, but it didn't matter much.

It really depends...for a much larger list I'd probably rather host it on eGroups or Topica...that way the burden of hosting the large list is on them, rather than on me and my host.

It depends on the circumstances, I think.

I think the best script for mailing list mangement is Power List. Its so easy to install. Its free too! I do have to say that web based mail is good because in case your server goes down or something freaky happens then you are always protected. Don't you hate it that the worst thing you think that could happen with your site eventually does?

It's a little late, but I will still recommend PowerList and MailMachine. PowerList is a very easy script to install, however it is a bit limited. MailMachine is also very easy to install, and it is more configurable.

    Good luck!

The only problem with CGI Scripts is that they don't deal with bounced email addresses which becomes more and more of a problem as the list grows. At SitePoint, we use Dundee.net to distribute our list. They've been pretty good. SparkList.com is another excellent option.
