The incredibly irritating one that says "If this ad is flashing you've just won a $20 shopping spree!" It's a blue and white ad with red letters and flashes continuously.
I also hate the casino ads, where the banner looks as if its downloading a game or something to your hard drive without your consent.
There's a really colorful one out there that just says "WINNER!" and flashes in about a billion different eye-straining colors.
The monkey one is pretty old. It created a dozen spin-offs, like the "slap-me-silly" one. It has a guy with green hair moving back and forth followed by a pair of hands. The movement is so fast that you can hardly concentrate on the actual site because of the stupid banner!

Once I saw one that said "CLICK HERE" in a big font. It changed colour VERY quickly and as long as it was on any part of the screen you couldn't read any other text since it caught SO much attention! Very annoying. (I didn't actually click it to teach the designer a lesson.

Haha, there was a thread a while back about "most annoying things you've seen on a site" or something similar and the "punch the monkey" banner was the first thing that popped in my mind. I would have to say that is the all-time most annoying ad.
I also hate those bright flashing banners, and banners that are meant to look like a message from your PC (ie: "Warning! Your connection needs to be upgraded", "You have 1 new message in your mail. Click here to read it!", etc.). They are flat out irritating.

The "punch the monkey" ad is definitely up there on my list. I also hate the rainbow-color, spinning, flashing, kind of ads. Yuck! eek!
Anyone ever see those ads with games on them? Or the one with like Britney Spears and you can flush her down the toilet? I believe those have sound and they are from the UGO ad network.

I hate about 67% of all adds. 32% is annoying and the remaining 1% consists out of banners that:
a) are being clicked on by me
b) look cool enough and still doesn't distract your attentionwww.nyanko.ws - My web-, software- and game development company.

I don't like those ones that look like error windows. I think it's really dumb ... "WARNING - your internet connection is not optimized" or whatever. There was actually a teacher that was standing behind me and thought that it was a real error.
But the punch the monkey is probably the worst.

The worst I ever saw was a red and green blinking banner - the colors were so bright they vibrated even when they weren't blinking! - and it read, "Click here to turn off this banner."
That's pretty darn low. Seems to me, if a website is good, then you shouldn't need to TRICK people to visit it.Cheese-N-Rice - A daily comic strip.

I definitely hate Punch the Monkey
I also dont like ones that have pictures of drop-down boxes, Submit buttons or other form elements. I know quite a few people who have gone to fill in the forms, then got taken away to some other site.

I hate the punch the monkey, but I really hate the ones where it looks like you can fill in the form. Or click the submit button. I also hate the ones that look like windows errors.

I kinda like the punch the monkey one.I think there should be an ad where you have to try to keep from getting punched by the monkey though.

I heard they were making "Who wants to punch the multi-millionaire" banners with that Rick Rockwell's face on them.

There's nothing wrong with punch the monkey - it's the fact that your computer goes to a crawl whenever it loads.
Of course, my advertiser paid me a lot to show it so...

The "punch the monkey" ad is annoying, but I disagree with several posts stating that the [false] submit forms are equally terrible. It is one thing if it is just a flat out lie... But, if you are simply trying to market your web site in a tactful way then, sure, try it. I got a nice CTR on a banner that said "click here to receive <dropdown> 1000 </dropdown> free banner impressions when we ran a special through an advertiser to give that many impressions away for all new free exchange accounts. I received lots of traffic, and people clicking on the ad actually got what was advertised. The now downloading ones are annoying, although I think that *some* warning signs are clever.

Today, I was tutoring a friend on the Internet (how to navigate etc) and there was one ad that said "You have one new message waiting to be read". Of course, before I could stop the victim, some E-Mail site had already loaded. That's terrible.

Well, I agree there. What a terrible first experience -- last time your friend clicks on a 468x60 for a while probably.

I bet.
Messes up the rest of us "honest advertisers". Selling ads isn't what it would have been worth if those crummy ads never existed.

It's pretty sad that advertisers have to trick people into clicking nowadays. But I guess it's always been that way.
