Here is some encouragement for those of you trying to get prizes. Of course, I am offering tremendous promotion. I sent out emails, like Angie of Pathway to Darkness told me to and so far I have these companies:
*http://www.winflight.com (4 roundtrip tickets to any US dest. and 4 resort hotel stays!!)
*http://www.garlanddrake.com/deal ($500 worth of hair falls)
*http://www.4aroma.com ($100 gift basket and 2 travel candles)
    *http://www.candlemart.com ($150 candle gift set)
    *http://www.fairydust.com (2 silver bracelets)
*http://www.scentagious.com (Versace perfume and Yves Saint Laurent perfume)
*http://www.romanticgift.co.nz (6 bottles of liqeuer gift set)
    ...plus others!

Its not that hard. You just have to ask.

What is the point of this? Is it spam?

Uh, no. I am a long time member of this forum and I have spent a lot of time putting together and researching this contest, as many have suggested doing. I was just letting others here know that I was successful at getting sponsors and how I did it. Others have been unsure how to do this in previous posts. I have never posted anything here that I did not think was useful information. Contests are great for promoting high traffic. Especially when you know how to promote them and you use a catchy theme.

Isn't this what this forum is for? To offer information or insight when you have found something that works well, to ask questions and have others help you?

If you felt it was spam, well sorry you didn't see the value of my information. Others may look at things differently and not so negatively. Some like to help...not everyone is out to scam.

    Sorry.

OK. I guess I didn't make myself very clear. The sites I listed above are some that have decided to become sponsors of a contest that I am soon to be running on my site (to increase traffic and repeat visits). They have contributed the items I have listed as prizes. I know that some people have had a bit of trouble in the past drumming up worth while prizes so I just complied a list of about 25 ecommerce sites that I thought sold products that would make good prizes for my contest, I drafted a professional email and asked them for prize donations. The post above lists those that offered to donate prizes and what they doanted. Just letting you know you can do it too.

    Steph,

That is very kind of you. Thank you for showing us/educating us on how we can improve our own traffic. I hope I can make such a contribution to the group also.

wow, ok, thats pretty amazing. I was also wondering how to give away prizes and i was thinking that i would just end up paying for the prizes with my own money. I have one question for you, what are you offering those companies in return and what kind of sales pitch did you send to the company. thanx

It's funny how we're so easily misunderstood isn't it Stephanie. No, honestly, I really was thanking you for your help. In fact, I took your note and passed it along to some of my partners so they can see how someone else is doing their marketing.

I guess kindness sounds sarcastic just like your help sounded like spam. We're all just too paranoid.

LOL! Arf, I would've taken your post as sincere except for the fist guy who answered me here was slamming me for SPAM - so that I got all defensive....sorry.

I am attaching a copy of the letter I emailed to the online merchants I was interested in for prizes, but I must give credit where credit is due. Angie of pathwaytodarkness.com gave me the template for this letter and most of my contest advice. She was extremely helpful.

    Greetings,

My name is XX and I run XX web site, (NAME OF YOUR SITE).

I'm in the midst of planning a very big, highly promoted contest.

I'm writing to invite (NAME OF COMPANY) to participate.

    HOW IT WORKS:
Companies, organizations and individuals across the web sponsor
the contest by generously donating an item or several items (of
their choice) from their inventory to contribute to the prize
    list.

In exchange, the sponsors get a great amount of FREE advertising.
(NAME OF YOUR SITE) routinely welcomes between XXX and XXX visitors per
month, and that number easily doubles during the busy Holiday
season. The sweepstakes will be promoted heavily both throughout the
site and all across the web.

    THE SWEEPSTAKES SITE:
An entire mini-site will be devoted to the sweepstakes. We will display
pictures and descriptions of each of the prizes, as well as
showcase the sponsors themselves. You can see the site in progress
    at http://www.yoursite.com/contest/

    PROMOTION:
(YOUR SITE) will be promoting (NAME OF YOUR CONTEST)
heavily throughout the months of XXX and XXX. This means
companies who decide to participate will benefit from a LOT of
good exposure during one of the busiest consumer spending periods
    of the year.

I was hoping you might be interested in becoming a sponsor by
donating some merchandise from (THEIR COMPANY). A great deal of
your merchandise would be of interest to our visitors. Would this
    be possible?

(As a side note, you INSERT COMMENTS ABOUT SPECIFIC PRODUCT HERE)

Feel free to call or email me if you have any further questions:

    phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX
    email: XXX@XXX.xom

Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Please post your results here if you use this method. I 'd interested to see how others do! Thanks.

Wow, very impressive. Thanks for the info Steph (can I call you Steph?)...those are some pretty hefty prizes!

Misunderstandings are bound to happen on the Internet when no one can hear your tone of voice - hopefully bandwidth will increase fast enough for this to remedied shortly.

OK. I just finished the sponsors page. I also included links to the sponsors from the prizes pages and I am sprinkling the sponsor banners throughout the contest mini-site. You cannot enter until Oct.1, but I have begun promotion. If you want to see how I have showcased my sponsores, here is the link: http://www.lingeriemonthly.com/contest.html

Bum! All I've ever got are a couple of signed books to give away.... must try harder!

Nice site too Steph, (The small links at the bottom are a little hard to read though, perhaps a slightly darker pink for those?)

The halloween pussycat panties were pretty scarey though!!!
I'm sooooooo tempted to enter the Pamela look-a-like contest, I wonder how I would do!
