I have approx 260![]()

I have about 500 full songs and about 400 canceled downloads from napster. That's a huge amount considering that I connect at 26.4.
If I only had RoadRunner...

Not bad, not bad. Keith is our highest thus far. Let's see if someone can dethrone him.Originally posted by KeithMcL

I hear you! I had RoadRunner, but now are on a 56K modem (it's the highest my area gets). But 400 canceled songs? I have a handful of incomplete song, but come on, how can anyone stand to have THAT many incomplete mp3s?Originally posted by abahta

Keith first? Aidan has 500, doesn't he?
I've only got about 60 or so - I tend to listen to the same ones over and over...then I get sick of them, get a few more...the whole thing alternates in and out.
I bought a Sony Discman last week and just got to open it today (Friday)...the best part is that, even though it was a pain and took quite awhile, I got to gather 15 of my favorite MP3s, convert them to .wav format, and burn them onto a CD! It's very cool to listen to a mix of all my favorite songs on a normal CD player...
The only downside is not everyone can do it...aside from having a writeable CD ROM, you also need a lot of disk space...a 3 meg MP3 file can become about 30 megs upon conversion to a WAV file...I think there's a way to avoid this; but I don't know how yet...so I spent maybe 45 minutes converting them all, then copying them do the downstairs hard-drive...and then burning them onto the CD![]()
WHEW! It was worth it!

I have exactly 49. All are downloaded using Napster on a 56k modem. I lose...

I have 0.I've never downloaded an MP3 that I know of.
I have 1,000. When I get bored I just download songs. My friends tell me what to get and stuff and I make cd's with them.
6.5 Gigs...

Good news TWTCommish > Get the FREE musicmatch software ( http://www.musicmatch.com ) - it will let you burn DIRECTLY from an MP3. You can also do it with the newer versions of the Adeptec CD writer software. You used to have to convert to .wav, but it's MUCH easier to do it directly from MP3.
I have 1,113, but only about 600 last week. One of my Chinese friends had 10 CDs he wanted as MP3s so I converted for him. I also burned all my CDs to MP3s as it is easier to play MP3s then carry around lots of CDs.

Will that work? I don't believe CD players play .mp3 files...otherwise it would be simple

You can use a Mp3 player or use one of the new cd players that plays both mp3 cd's or regular cds. Pretty cool!
I have over 1400 songs (7.6 gigs worth) and am still getting moreLets see, so far I have the record here
oh, and that is all on 56k

I believe they will be encoded in CD-Audio format so they are recognised as normal audio CDs.
Before, you had to convert them to WAV, then you could burn them to a CD.
I only have about 150 songs...but that number is increasing daily.Originally posted by TWTCommish

Also, I dont have all that much free disk space for them...only about 1 Gb absolute max.![]()

Just counted them: 246
But I have 560kbs so sometimes I just listen them from the web without saving them. Plus I'm busy putting the mp3 on CDs so I save space and can play them on regular CD players too.

I've got 1034 (currently) mp3's on my harddrive and about four CD's full of them too. Total amount is something like 1500-1700.
And I've got a 33,6kbps![]()

Correct, sorry - I was tired.Originally posted by TWTCommish

What does everyone use to download the mp3s? Napster, Gnutella, Scour, newsgroups, IRC? I mainly use Napster, but I know others are available if I need them. How does the getting of files (mp3s especially) work with IRC? I recently learned how to download files from newsgroups (okay, okay, so it was the Britney Spears performance at the VMA - it's not like I listened to the music, though)

I got over 1000, I'm also currently in the process of ripping all my cds, when thats done I'll probably have closer to 2000
Chris

I used to just get them from AudioFind.com - now I use Napster...rarely, though. I usually go on a "Napster Binge" and download 10 in a day, and then not use it for a month or so.
I seriously doubt my CD player can play MP3s on a CD...I'll just keep converting them to WAV...works so far!

Yea your right, it CANT.
BUT, you can buy special ones now for about 100 bucks that can. I know this for a fact. Actually Time Magazine (or maybe PC World?) just did a write up on one in there technology section.
I have 1200 (only 5 gigs) - and I still gotta finish ripping my cds. I guess I got a little ways to go before I catch up with Matt and GodFather.
I think Owen was trying to say that you could skip the MP3->Wav conversion, and just burn the audio from the MP3s to the CDs. Not burn the MP3s to the CDs. And that works - that's what I do. The software I use (just!audio from cequadrant - it came with my computer ... compaq <shudder>) allows you to do that, and it makes life easy.
That's how I burn them too JRS. I use the stuff that came with my Compaq.![]()
Let's see ... I got about 12 CDs that are all full with MP3's ... and plus about 1 gig on my hdd ...![]()
I have 27 .mp3's but I don't download them because it just bothers me to try and find them when I can go to Amazon.com and order the CD in about 3 pages and get them the next day.
The ones I do have a friend sends to me over ICQ when she gets depressed. So I download the MP3 and we both listen to it and talk about it to cheer her up.
