    Directory-Style URL?

    Hi,

I don't really know where to ask this question, but maybe this can be also achieved with PHP, so I am asking it here.

Currently my URLs and links look as follows: www.domain.com/gallery.php?image=3038
How can I change these to: www.domain.com/gallery/3038 ? How is this called, as I don't even know for what to look on the Internet? I remember that I once saw someone doing this with redirects, but doesn't this add then an additional request to the server?

Yes, URL rewriting. We have a sticky thread at the top of this Server Configuration, Apache & URL Rewriting forum, which gives a nice intro to it as well. [Thread moved to that forum.]
