make white bg image transparent

I'm trying to make this image background transparents..



I'm using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 to try to get this done. I saved it for web and tried that transparency tool, but it didn't work really well at all. Does anyone have some tips on how to do this? Thanks

You'll probably need to export it as a GIF or a PNG. As far as I'm aware, Jpeg's cant be transparent

ur right. JPG does not support transparency in any way and browser support for PNG is very spotty. I would go with the GIF.

The background is not going to be transparent even if you save it as a GIF or PNG with the transparency option until you get rid of the white background.

Start a new image the same size, with a transparent background. Create a new layer, and paste the entire image into it. Then, either use the polygon select feature or the eraser, or the magic wand, and delete the white bacground.
