I have a voting booth on one of my websites as a contest. I have cookies set so when you vote, you shouldn't be able to vote again for a week.
Ok, people like to turn off cookies and vote and vote.
so, I set it up to check IP address, then made a log to track who was voted for, date, time, IP and IP information. Well, since AOL likes to constantly changing IP address (I think, need back up on that), It still lets people on AOL vote over and over ... look at this:
I know when I have tried to check my web email from an AOL browser, I would get an error message everytime I would try to choose an email that says "your IP address has changed. Please log back in" .. or something to that effect ..
I thought about doing a registration, but that is just too much trouble.
Not really too much trouble, but not worth the time, at least right now.
But, the wheels are turning now and might eventually be a good thing to make them register .... mmmmmm
But, my main issue right now is to feel confident that someone is cheating the voting, and may actually disqualify this person. It is odd to get 30 votes in less than an hour on an AOL ip for one person .. then other votes scattered .. then happen again later ...
