Hi it's good idea to Design wordpress theme ,
that's not so much complicated first design your web page and then convert it into wordpress theme.

wordpress is very good and very simple once you got the basic, just learn about how to add a Loop on wordpress then the other things are really easy, start by learning the design schema of the default wordpress theme then follow the step by steps on the wordpress development guide gave by guido2004.

The best way to learn how to develop and convert design to Wordpress is to go to: http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development. I don't need anything.

i think it would be better to just take a theme as it is. you can easily change this usuing an editor.
