    I'm creating a new site in Frontpage 2000 and have ran across some table problems. If you have Frontpage just plug this is there
    --------------
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%"></td>
    </tr>
    <table>
    <td WIDTH="200"><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <tr>
    <td width="200">
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </td>
    <td WIDTH="470"><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <tr>
    <td width="470">
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </td>
    <td WIDTH="150"><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <tr>
    <td width="150">
    <tr>
    <td></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </td>
    </table>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%"></td>
    </tr>
    --------------
    Now when I go back the the 'normal' view and type something in anyone of the tables, the other 2 will shrink to accomadate the new text. What do I need to change so that the tables stay their size?

    First - make sure that your HTML code is nested correctly. You are opening a second table without closing the first. You also have row and data tags after your last table closing tag at the bottom. Don't forget to add a single space in each empty cell.

    If you are using FP, your best bet would be to use the table shortcut button in menu bar. Roughly shape your table by clicking and dragging. Split and merge cells by right-clicking on them. And then try tweaking the code.

    1. You forgot to include a </table> at the end.

    2. I have never seen FP2000 do that. Mostly it happens in DW3 because it is rendered wrong in NS or something like that.

    3. To insert table use the Tables menu - Insert new table

    Well what I'm getting at is I need 3 columns with multiple rows in each. These individual rows shouldn't interfere with the other colums since I will I have buttons in the left column, news in the middle column and a poll in the right column. Of course this is probaly a very simple problem that I'm trying to solve with a complex solution, but I've been stuck on it for 2 days and need help.

    <center>
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <tr>
    <td width="150">
    <div align="center">
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">Test</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">Test</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">Test</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">Test</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="100%">Test</td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </div>
    </td>
    <td width="570">
    <div align="center">
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
    <tr>
    <td width="100%" valign="top">

    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </div>
    </td>
    <td width="150">

    There is no reason why he should use DW3 for tables. FP2000 has FAR better table editing tools than DW3. And I'm speaking out of experience.

    I don't see a reason why anyone should use another program besides DW3 to create tables. And I'm also speaking out of experience.

    I use lots of tables on my sites, and DW never gives me any problems while creating or modifying them.

    This thread is being closed. Every topic does not need to become a Dreamweaver vs. Frontpage debate. When either of you two can show me a site design in your respective programs that is of the caliber of Glassdog, Thomas Brattli's Site and his portfolio, Brain Jar and many other superior sites, then you will have bragging rights to your particular program.

    So I hereby challenge you to create such a site for no more than bragging rights and to improve your own skills in web design. Until such time that you do keep in mind that each person uses different tools and neither program is better than the other, they just appeal to different personalities.
