Definately MaximumPC. Other mags can be dry and dull at times, but MaximumPC is always interesting.

http://maximumpcmag.com has a lot of the content that is in the mag. It's about 95 cents US per month to subscribe (I think). It is pretty expensive in stores though.

I'm subscribed to "Web Techniques" magazine, which can sometimes be too advanced over my head, but then again, it can be interesting at times. It's aimed toward the web developer and junkee mostly. I've also read a few issues of Yahoo! Internet Life and PC Magazine. Overall, though, I really don't have ONE favorite.

Generally I find all computer publications turn out to be Microsoft drones, especially the ones from Ziff Davis. I do however read Maximum PC, Maximum Linux, Linux Journal, SQL Journal, Linux Today, Open, Business Week, Forbes, WSJ, Linux Format, Macworld, Mac Addict, but I make a point of NEVER reading or wasting money on PC Computing, PC Mag, Win Mag (when it was in print form), Visual Basic Journal (one word: ROFL), etc.

I have a subscription to about half and the other half I get when I'm at the airport or at a grocery store. I find I like magazines a lot and so does my brother so we usually split the cost.

I like MacAddict and Fast Company, but Fast Company only because it is free (and has lots of pretty colorful pictures. ooh.)

PC Computing is now Smart Business. I must admit, I don't really like either the new or the old, as in the new a lot of the articles are filled with false data...but some article are interesting.

Wired, MaximumPC, PC Computing->Smart Business. Those are my main three, although I'll pick up whatever looks interesting at the time.

My favorite is definitely the ".net" and although I'm in the US I'm willing to pay the price for the mag and included CD (subscribing is cheaper) - and then back it up with visiting their website. "Computer Arts" is another one worth the price...

"Web Techniques" is filled with informative tips, reviews and is free! I can take my basic knowledge of scripts and this magazine helps to fill in the blanks...

P.S. Although almost every magazine now has an online website that will have similar content, I just like holding a 'real magazine' in my hands!

I've seen .net Magazine in the bookstore a few times and it looked interesting, maybe I'll pick myself up a copy one of these days because of all the recommendations I have read in these forums.

On the August 2000 CD from .net was the full version of HotDog Professional 5.5 - not the demo and no strings attached and free. Although HotDog is now at 6.0, having the 5.5 version is not bad, not bad at all... I just picked this issue up, so it should still be available at some bookstores...

Each month they have 2 or 3 full version programs and lots of other graphic and web programs & utilites...some trial and some you can find online, such as 1st Page, but all on one CD and most are free!

You can find many of this online but .net is just a fun magazine that covers everything from Windows to Netscape to Internet Explorer to Web Design to Graphic Tips and articles...and more!

I buy my copy of .net magazine at Tower Books for $8.95 which considering some of the prices of computer/graphic magazines these days isn't that outrageous. And as most of my 'learning' is on the web, this is my treat! I never throw them out as there is always something that I may have missed, they have running tutorials and there is also the CD included, sometimes 2!

Charges vary widely from store to store in the U.S. - Barnes & Noble charges $14.95 which is way too high! - so you may need to shop around as they are sometimes hard to find.

I think it also goes for about $8.95 at Hastings, which is the bookstore I've seen it at. Not real cheap as far as magazines go, but what the heck -- looks like a quality publication with a lot of good information, plus a CD full of software! Gonna pick up a copy tomorrow.

    Hi,

If you think .net giving away HotDog 5.5 away free was good in the first issue I bought there was a free copy of Dreamweaver 1.2.
