I am 16 years old, and I just decided to start my own company online. The company is call Digital Information Services, and I don't think that the name is taken. I plan on developing several sites, and making money off the sites.

I started on the first site, which is geared towards webmasters, but a little heavy on the ezine writing/promotion side. If you want to see a prototype page, just visit http://mywebresources.hypermart.net

I have very little money to put into this effort, and I need to know the fastest way of earning money with websites. Any help, ideas, or advice will be greatly appreciated.

BTW, My Web Resources is accepting articles, links, and other resources to publish on the site. Just send it to seventiesluver@yahoo.com

    Thanks,
    Jesse Seymour

I see you're on a budget, and aiming at web masters. As I'm on a zero budget, and I was creating my club site for the fun of it, I used free software for the whole thing.

I recently did a summary of what I'd used for my daughter's high school (that's pupils aged 11 to 16 /18 in the UK), and I was amazed how much there was.

If you'd like feedback on what I used, let me know.

I would like very much to see what you used.

Also, if any one could suggest some could free ad rotation software and some message board software it would be a great help.

I suggest Adcycle to rotate advertisements and vBulletin (forums) if you have the money. If you can't spend money, BoardPower will do the trick.

He can start with vBulletin lite as his forums. These are free but don't involve as much hassle when his site grows and needs to upgrade.

I may be the wrong person to be giving advice as I'm not really making any money with my site yet (I'm spending most of my efforts at learning html, etc.) but here goes my theory...

Most ecommerce solutions require money. Ecommerce hosting, merchant accounts, payment gateways, credit card processing programs, security certificates (to show customers their transactions are secure) ALL take lots (at least to me) of money.

"Sell a product," many might say. Easy to say, tougher to do. Physical products take money to manufacture, store, inventory, ship, and provide customer service for, not to mention the costs associated with payment processing.

So, how do you make money without money? The best solutions will only require "sweat equity" (labor) and be quick and easy. Here's my top four suggestions:

    Associate or Affiliate Programs

Find associate programs that will pay you a percentage of the price they charge for their products. You save the expense of setting up the ecommerce as their site process the payment, inventory, shipping and customer service. This solution is quick and easy as (usually) the most you'll have to do is provide a link to their products. Just as an example: for your site you could offer books on web programing, html, xml, flash, etc. Link with Amazon.com as an associate and you could get 5-15% of the book price. Be creative in which products you offer, you would be surprised at the connections you can create so that you can offer a wide variety of products appropriate to your site. Again, I don't know how much this may bring in, but other posters on this site have *claimed* very impressive numbers for affiliate program payments.

Check http://quickclick.com for affiliate program info.

    #2 Offer Advertising

A notch up in difficulty/effort is advertising. As others have suggested there are free/low cost ad rotators that will do much of your work for you. Only problem with this idea is may advertisers want to know your viewership numbers and until you're pulling in healthy numbers may have difficulty selling ads and displaying enough to make this worth your while.

#3 Offer premium info in a members only area and charge for membership.

One more step up in difficulty/effort. There are free/low cost membership management programs out there to help offer this service. This step is more difficult becuse it requires you to offer info that people are willing to pay for. Additionally it requires some sort of payment processing ability. (you could depend on people sending in checks/money orders, but credit card acceptance ability will give you significantly more sales that other methods).

Again, there are services on the web that offer credit card processing without the merchant account, payment gateway, etc. These firms charge a percentage of the cost you charge. Notice I didn't say "percentage of your profits." They are unconcerned whether you're making a profit or not, and regardless charge their standard percentage. This tends to eat into your profits, but _does not_ mean that you cannot make a profit.

    #4 Offer an e-product.

Most difficult/most time consuming. This again means you have to have something to sell: down-loadable programs, advice, etc. I say "e-product" because, again, to get into physical products requires a whole host of associated costs that are difficult to pay when you are starting with no money (i.e. inventory, shipping, productions, etc.).

E products will require you, again to have the services of a payment processing company (with all the above caveats repeated).

Use your head and your sweat. Where there is a will there is a way.

AND YOU DO NOT NEED MONEY TO MAKE MONEY!!

Good luck! (Let us all know how your doing in a few months!)

Thanks for all your advice. I got a lot of helpful pointers, and things are going smooth. I just have a few troubles writing articles, but otherwise I have no problems.
