I recently applied to be a dmoz.org editor. I was just wondering what the criteria is (if known) and how do you find out if you are selected? Secondly, I'm just wondering how dmoz.org goes about adding sites to their project? I submitted my site a couple of days ago, how long should it take for the site to be reviewed?

It usually takes me under a week and a half or so, they are much faster than yahoo. I usually just check back and see, but sometimes they will email you.

All depends. Sometimes if your unlucky its a category where the editor just isnt active. Then it might take awhile for a higher editor to step in.

    Hi,

Im an editor for one catagory. The emailed me the next day and said I was selected. If your just starting out as an editor you have more of a chance of getting selected if you choose a catagory thats at least 4 levels down and has about 10 to 20 sites listed. You also have a better chance of getting selected if your site fits in that catagory or you have something to do with it.

It is not easy to get accepted you need to:

    1) Select a category with very little links. Maybe pick something that is not the category you want you can get it later once accepted
    2) You MUST fill in the 3 links they ask for with decent descriptions. This is where most people fail either with bad english or don't bother. If you don't you will almost certainly not get accepted.
    3) Don't include your own site in the 3 links to add
    4) They will not accept people who are only there to list their own site so don't! just use the add url form if you want to do that.

    Basically:

    To get your site in:
Pick a category with good editor coverage
Have a good site of course

    To be an editor:
Pick a category with low editor coverage where they need them.
Have a related site or be somewhat and enthusiast in the category topic

BTW: If anyone wants to buy script that lets you add the ODP to your site then email me.
