    Netscape 4 compatibility problem

I am in the process of creating a couple of web sites and I have recently ran into a snag. The web sites both use asp, include files, cascading style sheets, some javascript for menu functions, and online forms.

They are fine in Netscape 6 and fine in IE. The sites are having trouble in Netscape 4.

One only displays the javascript built menu and the other has problems with the format and cascading style sheets.
If any one has suggestions on what to look for when fixing these sites I would be very appreciative.

Netscape 4 only implements about 45% of the CSS1 recommendation, so if you have attributes such as borders, padding, margins, floating, etc. they won't work (the box model has not been implemented in NS4). Netscape 4 also uses a different Javascript object model than the DOM0 standard set forth by the W3C. Your choices at this point are:
    1. Drop support for Netscape 4. This may not be an option depending on how many of your site's visitors actually use it.
    2. Perform a lot of workarounds and hacks to get your site working correctly.

Sorry to give you this news but you should know.

Here is a site you may find useful. There are detailed charts which tell you what features of CSS (1 and 2) are supported by the various versions of different browsers.

I feel your pain. Browser compatibility is my biggest headache.
    Good luck with your sites

Thanks for the help. I am using the charts to start with the workarounds.
