    This Not Working in NS.....

    I'm trying to use my sliced image design in tables with each section as a background so I can lay an image ontop of it.

    Problem is, I can't seem to get these backgrounds to work in NS4. I always try to accomodate NS4 since it's a very picky browser and what looks good there normally looks good in all other browsers.

    The URL of my test page is: http://www.austinsinger.com/files/index.html

    The section of code is below...

    <TD background="graphics\1_1.gif" WIDTH=186 HEIGHT=77><IMG height=77 alt="Austin, Texas!" src="graphics/logo_austex.gif" width=186 border=0 ></TD>
    <TD background="graphics\1_2.gif" WIDTH=589 HEIGHT=77><IMG height=77 alt="AustinSinger.com"src="graphics/logo.gif" width=589 border=0 ></TD>
    </TR>
    <TR>
    <TD background="graphics\2_1.gif" WIDTH=186 HEIGHT=50></TD>
    <TD background="graphics\2_2.gif" WIDTH=589 HEIGHT=50 valign="top"><IMG height=5 src="graphics/clear_pixel.gif" width=81 border=0><font face="impact" size="5" color="#003070">Austin's Online Entertainment Resource<font><BR></font></font></TD>

    I've tried it bot with and without those little hash marks (or whatever they're called)

    What's strange is I've done this before on other sites and it worked! I've done here exactly what I did on my other sites, but it's still not working for some reason.

    I must be missing something basic here....

    haven't tried it in NS, but it didn't work in Phoenix 0.5 either...

    change your backslashes to forward slashes, e.g.

    Code:
    background="graphics\1_1.gif"
    to

    Code:
    background="graphics/1_1.gif"
    p.s.: the " is called "double quotes", as opposed to ' which is "single quote"

    That did it!

    Now I see why NS4 is a good browser to test in considering it's so sensitive and bassackards by today's modern browsers.

    Thanks for the tip!

    Now you're just giving the browser more credit than it's worth. You can also test your more "modern" sites (i.e. XHTML sites that don't work too well with NS4) in Opera. If it looks good in Opera it will usually work great in Mozilla/NS and IE.
