    Hi,
thanks to advice of peeps on this forum, I am trying to get to grips with mySQL and PHP.

    AM HAVING NO LUCK!

    http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/...tw=programming

is the tutorial I have tried to use, but I can't seem to even get mySQL installed on my system. I may be being thick, but usually I pick things up quite fast. Does anyone know of a "dummies" tutorial that will handle the basics such as installing (step by step)?

    Cheers in advance

Are you installing this on a Windows platform?

If so go to http://www.firepages.com.au/bundle.php Download the zip file. It contains PHP4/MySQL/Apache all zipped up and comes with instructions on how to install. It is totally free Don't forget the php.ini file also. If you are using the PWS I can give you some more instructions for getting it to work.

    hmmmm.

It shows up as being installed, but is not in my control panel. Since I have a free net connection, I always test my sites "live" on my isp's server - should I be using pws?

So where do you install this MySQL? Your own PC or your ISP's server? Because I don't think you can install anything on an ISP's server. If you are installing locally, then you need a HTTPd server (PWS is one of it, others are Apache, OmniHTTPd, Sambar, etc), and you don't have to be online to test things. Just run the server and you're up.

Maybe this links can help you :

If your host has mySQL and PHP installed on it, then you can test your sites "live" and you probably don't need to instally PHP and mySQL locally.

You can administer mySQL through Telnet or perhaps mySQL Admin if your host has it installed.
