    Best 1140 grid system

I've tried cssgrid.net 1140 grid system but found it terrible when it came to nesting grids. So if i had a main content area of gird 10 and side bar of grid 2 theres no easy way to split up content using grids inside the grid 10.

So can anyone suggest an approach to creating a 1140px responsive site using grids?

Code it yourself, and create your desired layout without impediments.

I know that's not the answer you want, but I just can't understand why people choose to use grid systems, as they seem to tie people up into all sorts of unnecessary knots.

Well because grids take care of layout in a consistent way. Its much more efficient to simply apply classes to divs to create layout. And for clients its easy for them to create pages on a grid system.
