I was wondering where a good place to start from ground zero in learning php is, I mean a complete utter ignorance of php, knowing nothing. I want to start learning the stuff ,who knows maybe even come good at but I first want to have a complete understanding of the basics and have my feet well planted on the ground about the subject/script in general.
P.S. - Excuse my grammar tonight I am pretty tired probably some missed place commas, but who cares.

My article, "Building a Database-Driven Web Site Using PHP and MySQL" provides a pretty good introduction to PHP in Part 3. As far as books are concerned, I highly recommend WROX Press' "Professional PHP Programming" (see my review here). They'll also be releasing "Beginning PHP4" within the next couple of months, which should also be quite good.

Thanks for that article. I have bookmarked it because I only briefly looked through it. I will actually sit down and read it later on

The article by Kevin is quite detailed and very helpful for the very beginning and is a good resource for later look ups. I learned (actually still learning
) PHP mostly from this forums and also from the forum at phpbuilder.com. Because in forums I can really specify my probs and ques and are almost answered within hours.

By the way, I highly recommend any of you print that article for future reference. If you can get hold of any laser printer, print it!
