    Adding weather to my site??

I have looked all over Hotscripts.com for a script that would add local weather to my site, but every script that I have downloaded doesn't work because the site that it grabs its news from has changed the way it displays the weather.... Is there an easier way to get weather to display on my site?

I like Metar.pl which ranges from $11.95 (non commercial) to $24.95 (commercial) and uses the Metar database to pull it's data from. You can use your own custom graphics and it has lots of formatting / style options.

It looks like an awesome script, but this is for a personal site, and I don't really want to pay for something like this on a personal site I will if there are no other options...

    Hey Stephan.

I wrote a MOD for phpBB2 that grabs the weather from Yahoo.

It's simply a PHP function, which you should be able to edit

[advisor edit: link removed, self promotion is not allowed]

    Is were it's located.

Again, though it's for phpBB, it's just a simple function. You'll just have to pass-through a ZIP-Code (yes, it only works in the USA) or you can hard-code the Zip-Code.

    Jeremy,

What in the heck are you talking about man!
"Self Promotion" come on... I was providing him with the very code he needed. No different than me linking to hotscripts, or heaven-forbid, a tutorial here @sitepoint!

I don't know where in the world you guys get-off with this "self promotion" crap, but I've been around here for a year or two, and have never seen, nor heard, of this type of crap before.

If you don't want your members to have the code they need, than what the hell are you calling this a "resource" site for!

    Hey mate,

Let me ask you something. Where do you draw the line? Our current rule is, and has been for well over a year, that promoting of one's own sites is against policy.

The reason is that the line is very hard to draw. It's great if it's exactly what he needs, wonderful. Many tutorials that people have written are exactly what people need. Many products people have written are exactly what people need. Many bulk email campaigns are exactly what people need.

Personally I don't mind if you pm him the link, what happens in private doesn't concern me unless it's doing harm to another member. In the forums, though, following the rules means that SitePoint has the least spammers I've ever seen on any forum, and an incredibly healthy community to boot.

A community, I might add, which has helped you with many problems during your career, so I find it hard to believe you think us to be so useless.

As the famous someone once said "can't we all just get along"? This really isn't a big deal. If you want to help him, pm him

    John,

I got the code to work but I think that Yahoo is having a problem with their images..... All I really want for my weather is the temperature and the high and the low for that day. Since I see what the code is doing I will try to modify it to look for those specific things only off of Yahoo.

    Thanks,

Lets see, a FREE script was provided that was given in direct response to the question posed in this thread. I am in need of a similar script so I search for Metar, get this thread in the results - but I also can't benefit from Johns FREE script that was given as a valuable response to the question posed in this thread.

    100% silliness.

I actually found a script that used an XML feed to create the news report. Let me find the link and I will post it.

It's over 4 months, who's to say John still gives this script out. If you're worried about it, PM John asking about it. Rules are rules, you know.
