There have been explanations of how to do 3-column fluid layouts in CSS for a while now. The most famous source of these (and other possible layouts as well) is http://www.glish.com/css/.

I said straightforward tutorial didn't I?
I don't think they ever plan on getting un-ugly. Y'know, just in case you want to go look at the site on your PDA or watch or something.

It's not even that their site is ugly. I don't find it ugly, just very plain. They use default sans-serif fonts and very neutral colors; it reminds me of my stepmother's living room.
