New gallery website for HTML email designs

    Hi guys,

I've recently started a new WordPress based site to showcase HTML emails. I post a new email every day so the site stays fresh. As you'll see there's a lot of jQuery on the site which seems to work pretty well.

I'm looking for a few thoughts on the design, usability and concept of the site and any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

    My site is at www.newsletter-examples.com

    Thanks in advance,

    Brendan.

    Nice looking site.

    A few things I'd recommend:

    - make sure the site looks OK with JS off. (At the moment, the design breaks a bit without it. One thing you could do is use .entry {display: inline-block} instead of float: left.
    - I like your intro on the Home page. I would recommend, however, that you place the columns/industry/colour options after that intro, because they don't mean much until you've read the intro. (I also think it would look nicer to have the intro first.)

It might also be worth clarifying what you are offering here. Are these just for visual inspiration, or are these emails tested in lots of email clients in terms of code? Getting code to work across clients is a bigger issue with HTML email that getting the look right. If you are accepting designs from other people, I guess you can't guarantee how good the code id (unless you test it first). This is where sites like CampaignMonitor and MailChimp will have an advantage over you.

    Hi, here is my configuration:

    Windows 7 1280x1024
Firefox 13.0.1 Javascript On Cookies On
    Flash 11.3.300.257
    Adblock Plus 2.0.3
    Kaspersky Internet security 2012 12.0.0.374
    Java 6.0.3.330.3

    1. Website is too red. Try to use more colors and use less space for red.
    2. Try to separate areas more obviously. Currently it seems that there are only boxes of previews and other text. Only bottom and area with search and selectors are sort of separated.
    3. Pages of newsletters designs load rather slow.
    3. Selectors dont seem to be working properly. Can I choose how many results to display?
    4. Why is there facebook comment option on on all pages except home?
    5. Why is there 2 links to "Home"?
    6. Copyright is link or category too?
    7. I think there is no need to show part of description from begining. I would prefer preview boxes to function more like google images.

My first impression is that it's a nice, professional looking website, so you don't have that much to worry about.

Right under your top navigation, you have the three dropdown elements, which I assume allow you to sort the examples on the page. This is nice, but you're not telling the user what it is. I understand what it's used for without you telling me, but it takes a couple of seconds to get it. You could reduce the friction by simply saying "sort examples by" or something similar to that.

I was a little thrown off by the background color of the search box. I think the convention for that is white background and changing the convention usually means reduced usability.

Another thing I noticed is the expanding boxes when you hover over them - this is nice. However, it gets a bit inconvenient when I scroll down the page so that I only see the bottom 1/3rd of a box and accidentally hover over that while trying to hover over the one below it. It's a minor detail, but something you might want to consider. Similar to that, when you hover over the boxes which are at the bottom of the list, they overlap with the page numbers for going to different pages.

    Hope this helps!

Honestly, I like your website a lot and can't see much to improve on. The only thing i'd say is to put a period after welcome to newsletter examples to make it more of a statement and to make the text underneath a little bit bigger or the "If you've made a great email design and think we should feature it, just submit your newsletter." bigger for some contrast.
