    Best logo - a 10 sec review

Here is the list of proposals I got : http://theguideof.eu/theguide.gif

It is for a website accompanied with a mobile app which:

    - is a touristic guide containing wiki info, reviews, interesting places to see, etc

    - 50% of the whole idea contains map-related functions (navigation, showing POIs, etc)

    - the logo must suggest its subject by its symbol not by its text

    - must keep its meaning if it had the size of a desktop icon (or phone icon)

Please spare 30 sec and pick one
    Thanks

To be honest, none of them really give me an idea of what's on offer, and they don't work too well at a small size. My mind kept insisting that the last word is missing. I want a word after 'of'! It was almost kind of anoying that it's not there.

As they say, a word tells a thousand pictures ...

Thanks, a bad review is better than no review
As for the "missing word" - there will be the town name, one by one: the guide of paris, the guide of new york, the guide of your-town.

It is the "guide" which I want the logo suggest.

    I like 5.5.

If it could be make so it wouldn't relay a sense of urge... Which I believe is the general problem. This sense of urgency is more in tone with a logo for a fast shipment company or for a cab company.

The illustrations are not logos. You posted concepts that are trying too hard to send a message, which makes them illustrations, not logos. I'm sure they fit somewhere in there, but you need to slim the concepts more to get a logo.

    Interesting point of view.

Can I change my review now! LOL

Hope you don't take it too hard, but 5.5 is my choice because it's simpler. A logo is something you need to recognize in a split second, it's not something to study up like a painting.

The choice of colors is good. I'd say the design is too complex and sends a "hurry up" message. If it's the one you want, that's OK then.

EDIT: On a second thought, I'd take 7.1 and simplify it, colors and design, maybe just put a compass or something inside the location pointer.

In that case, it would be better to say "The Guide to ...", as "of" is not quite right grammatically. It implies something else.

As Mitica says, a logo ideally should be simpler than these. But anyhow, if I had to choose one, I'd personally go for 4.1 or 4.2—partly because I expect a guide to include a map, and partly because (if this can apply to cities around the world) palm trees, surf boards etc. will not be appropriate in some places.

I quite like 2.2, although I'd agree with ralph.m that none of them works well at a small scale.

To me, "the guide of somewhere" sounds wrong; it should be the guide to somewhere.

Edit: Ralph got the grammatical bit in before me.

It never hurts to have a second opinion.

OK, I know what not to look for (palms).

You know what is interesting, I do not have any majority yet. I am still hoping to get more reviews for the logos so I can decide.

Thank you for your inputs. A lot !

Number 5 concept 5 but I would make sure that you brand yourself pretty well, because at a glance it doesn't speak much.
