    Tablet PC friendly site

    Hi,

I'm redesigning my (Italian) website about Tablet PCs and would appreciate any feedback with progress so far.

Given the subject and audience the layout is flexible so that it can fit on a tablet screen in portrait mode.

    Any feedback will be appreciated

    Cheers,

Great blog, but I think it is a bad idea to use background image like that. Make it simple with a white background wrap.

@knoleggs, you called it a 'blog' but.. hmm... it isn't one. It does feature a blog: http://tpci.lalaidea.com/italico but the site should be perceived more like an online publication. I guess I need to tweak the homepage for this purpose.

    I'll test different backgrounds

@kingsino, the site loads fast for me but that's because it's hosted in Australia (on my business domain). The plan is to host it in Italy. I'll have a look at how the CMS performs once it's hosted on tabletpc.it

The background is very distracting it's like reading a notepad make the background plain white or what ever colour would suit. The banner should be plain also and put the logo on the left hand side. The bottom part too much is going on overall it's quite distracting altogether.

Given that parts of your audience actually views it on portable devices I think you should make better use of the available space. I tested it on a laptop (resizing the browser window to various widths) as well as an iPod Touch. With a big screen it works OK but on the iPod Touch I get the same layout only with much smaller text meaning I have to magnify all the time. I think people are going to find this frustrating after a while and being a mobile related site people probably expect it to be optimized for mobile devices.

Why not make it so that with portable devices some parts (such as the leftmost column) is removed (or below the text content area), then use the extra space for the text area making the text bigger?

Also I find the big bold font on the right side for navigation distracting. That, the banner and blue boxes grabs a lot of attention away from the actual content. Try to make the page less busy/crowded meaning a more relaxing read.

    Thanks for the feedback

Tablet PCs (running windows) tend to have screens 10" or larger. For smaller devices I'll create a separate mobile site, but this is low priority as monetizing this traffic is still an unknown to me. Traffic on mobile devices (including iPads and Android tablets) is about 10%, which I consider high but not high enough compared to warrant diverting time / resources from other tasks.

If necessary I can get rid of the left hand side bar (http://tpci.lalaidea.com/home2). I'll see what the feedback is once I push live.

I've replaced the background with a sublte grey. Better?

    Cheers,

    Lawrence

I've not found your site slow. Can you make it multilingual? I think that will be better.
