    window.close -- I'm stuck

I have spent an embarrassing amount of time on this and still can't figure it out. Why won't the link near the top of the following page close the window? I've tried several variations, but can't get it to work.

Someone please point out what must be a ridiculous oversight on my part.

I don't have a clue why, but when I tested the page from the link in my forum message, it worked. Problem solved, although I don't know for sure why.

The window.close() method will only work if the target window was spawned by another window. Otherwise it will pop up a warning to ask whether the user wants to shut the window or not. That's why it's working correctly from the forum link, which is opening your site in a new window.
