Browser Redirection

Good Day,

We've recently made our intranet site available on the Internet, by opening up a port on the firewall.

This is great as we can now work on the intranet site via the internet.

We've run into a problem with certain modules which generate their own hyperlinks when sending out tasks.
So the user receives a link to click on http://site/page/long/url

This approach works fine on the intranet as when the user clicks on http://site/page/long/url he get's redirected to the site as he's computer's aware of the site.

However, on the Internet the browser tries to do a DNS lookup for http://site and finds none.

Is there software available, which will run client side, that will redirect any request to http://site to http://site.company.com:2030 ?

Not that I know of. This is a problem with the links that your intranet is generating, not a browser issue, so that's what you need to be fixing. If your intranet code could be altered to use absolute links that don't include the full URL (i.e. <a href="/blah">blah</a> rather than <a href="http://site/blah">blah</a>), then all should work fine.

Unfortunately the software cannot be changed on the intranet
and even if the links were changed to relative links,

We will still have the issue of sending e-mail to various parties with the url as clickable.

Within the e-mail message you'll need a Fully qualified URL, inorder for the client to click on it.
