It looks pretty cool, check out http://www.geobuddies.com

Here is a quote from the main page:

GeoBuddies is the most advanced Instant Messaging service available on the Internet today. Not only does GeoBuddies include standard IM features such as Chat and Contact Lists, but also advanced features such as RichText messages, File Transfers, Spell checking, and Voice Chat.

With GeoBuddies you can communicate with new friends, reach coworkers when their phone is busy, share files, or talk with a relative half way across the world.

GeoBuddies also works with other IM services. You can communicate with AOL IM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ users all from the convenience of a single easy to use interface.

GeoBuddies uses the Jabber protocol to communicate with multiple servers across the internet. This distributed functionality lets you connect to any server, and be able to communicate with GeoBuddies users, Jabber.org users, as well as other IM services.

The Jabber protocol is scalable allowing us to dynamically add new services to the GeoBuddies client without updating the client software. When a new service is added, it's automatically listed in the GeoBuddies interface.
It seems pretty good. And the interface looks nice

Another IM? Please tell me it's not true... I already have ICQ and AIM (which I almost never use) and another IM is just nothing for me...

Well, anyway, for me the only 'true' IM is ICQ, and LICQ when I'm on Linux

And yes, Matt you're right: it looks like a clone of M&M (MSN messenger, just a joke for insiders...)

    Hi,

I think I will try it, if it frees up resources and stops me having 3 IM programms open when I am on the internet ( i don't use AIM) it has to be good. I really hope it is better than Odigio because I hated that.

I am downloading it now and I will post my findings later.

    Hi,

I said I would post my findings and they are not good. I didn't even really have time to get a first impression of the programme. I load the porgramme and it comes up wiht a log in screen. I press Setup and then click on a new user button and then.....still waiting....nope nothing happens. I had a good fellign about this programme aswell it looks like I will have to wait for the next build to come out.

Hmmm well thats a shame, I had high hopes for the programme as well.

Did you report the 'bug'? That may be helpful.

I'm going to download it and check it out. I'm currently using Odigo, which works fine for me, but it doesn't support MSN IM. I'll post my findings a little later...

I tried using it but had the same problem as Fletch; it hung when I tried creating a new account. Oh well, good try...

    Hi,

I refuse to report the bug because of the amount of personal information that the bug report programme requests.

I don't see what's the point of using yet another new IM when AIM and ICQ are already here. I'm only going to use something that I need and what would this new one have to offer? Anything with the name "GeoBuddies" is too corny for me...

With this program running, you don't need ICQ, AIM, YAHOO IM, and M&M anymore. It combines all of those programs.

I've tested this funny little program:

The installation was fast and painless
Then I started the program. I immediately found that it's quite similar to the log-in screen of AIM.
I pressed the 'setup' button to sign up for a new account.
On the 'connections' tab I pressed the 'new account' button. Nothing happened.
I press again and again. Still nothing.
I press the most famous Windows Hotkey (ctrl+... ah well, you know what I mean) to see whether some program was hanging. There wasn't.

I've send a bug report to those funny guys, but I've only given my name and email address, the rest is 'n/a'

I would almost think that this is just a fake program and that only this 'log-in' screen exists...

Ok, I've send the bug report, and within an hour I found this in my mailbox:

    ---------------------------------------

Uh oh! You guys found the site before I started advertising. hehe. Yes sorry about the New User button not working. That's a VERY early beta you have downloaded.

If you REALLY want to check out the client a quick way around that is to Download JabberIM (www.jabber.com) and setup your account with it, and then use geobuddies.com afterwards.

Yikes, now that the site is visible I'll have to hurry up!

    Thanks for your interest though!

I thought it must be new, I actually found it by going to robkennedy's website (he advertised it at coolhomeoages.com) and checking out his links section.

    In reply to d3v's response

I belive it uses the jabber protocal which is kinda a standard that links many IM systems together check out http://www.jabber.org for more info.
