    Question

    Hi folks,

Is there such a thing as a "free" Flash program? I know there are "free" HTML and Web Authoring programs but I have not heard of or been able to find any "free" Flash programs.

    Thanks!!

Unfortunately the only program that can make Flash files is Macromedia's Flash. You'll have to pay quite a bit for it, too.

I believe that Flash and Shockwave are both closed standards. If they were open and the documentation of the files were available to the public you could expect many free Flash authoring programs.

I don't know where you could get your hands on a free program, but Swish has one for $30. I haven't used it myself, but the price seems right for what it can do.

    Thumbs up

    Interesting,

Just downloaded SWISH to see if it works.... interesting features for the price. I have Flash4 installed and I will post on the results.

    Thanks BobM

    WRONG!!

There is a program called Adobe LiveMotion which is able to make Flash movies too... It is not free but I think it is a bit cheaper than Flash4 of Macromedia. But unfortunately it is not yet as advanced as the Macromedia version is...

Try Tough Media for some 'Free Flash' that you can add to your pages, although there is a small advert that must remain...

Flash is available on 30 day downaload though isn't it?
Also, you can get educational discounts and that really cuts down the price.
If you have Director I think that does let you export movies.

Flash has a 30-day download. You can even export animations during the period.

    Macromedia is very generous.
