Does anyone know where to find a (free) legal document for a basic contract between web designer & client? What do you use? Thanks.

If you are serious about doing website work professionally, get a lawyer to draft an agreement for you. It's not that expensive and it pays for itself in the case of a dispute. Getting to know a good lawyer is essential anyways for the success of your business in the long term (make sure you also have a very good, reputable, in the know accountant).

That being said, there are several places onlien that have contracts availalbe:

    Setting Up

When I legally set up my business I did it all for free. I used the following resources:

    1. local Business Venture (free business help advisors)
    2. Government website for Tax and national insurance info
    3. newly printed setting up your own business book

    Good Luck

Thanks! I think I should mention that I'm in the UK, and that will affect what docs i can use obviously.

BTW, I'm just doing the web design for a bit of 'pocket money' now and again, it's probably not worth getting a lawer in, but I'll ask around and see if anyone I know is good friends with a lawyer so I can get it on the cheap

Optic - I am in the UK and I have a registered business. If you are just starting up a good place to go is your local Business Venture. Also check out
