MouseOvers...

Whats the best way to create mouseovers?

I hear there are several ways, and im wondering why that is... I mean why not just one way?

are there pros and cons to the different ways of doing it?
and if so, which way is the better way?

after telling me which way i should accomplish it...
can you give me a short run down on how to do it?

There is also a link within the article for a code generator. If you simply want text links to change color or become bold, you should probably use CSS. Java, on the other hand, is a bit too heavy for simple mouseovers.

I find that when I am using javascript mouseovers I use them IN the tages, that makes the independent, easy to edit, and you dont ahve to track down a script in the head and body. For example, if I had a table wih a cell, and I wanted the cells background color to be red when someone puts their mouse over it, I would go like this:

<TABLE BGCOLOr="blue">
<TD onMouseOver="bgColor='red'" onMouseOut="bgColor='blue'">
----TEXT IN THE CELL----
</TD>
</TABLE>

Placing instructions just in the tags takes advantage of the Document Object Model for Netscape and IE. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this can only be used in the latest browsers and causes compatibility issues and limitations.
