Hello,
I have been able to find free online tutorials about FrontPage but not FrontPage Express.
Does anyone know where I could find online tutorials about how to use FrontPage Express.
Thanks in advance

Cnet just did a review on 5 editors for under $50 - check it out.

Elledan:
Microsoft has had a 30 day preview of Frontpage ever since they released Frontpage 97. In fact if you look at the Microsoft site they have free previews for just about every product they offer except the core Office Suite and their Windows products.
Most trials are available for download or on CD for the cost of shipping.

I don't think you need a tutorial for FP Express, but you can make use of the FP2000 tutorials to learn FP Express. They have the same BASIC features and interface. Only FP2000 is far more powerfull.
Try to find a FP2000 basics tutorial...

I agree with Freesources. Another option you can look at is general HTML tutorials. If you start learning more about HTML you'll be able to make more professional pages regardless of what editor you use.
Also keep in mind that as you learn you will most likely outgrow Express and start looking for another Editor to work with. Some of the most popular are Dreamweaver, FrontPage, GoLive!, Homesite, and HotDog. All have 30 day trials available so you can check them all out to see which fits you best.

It is pretty good for free software. Not as refined as its competition like Homesite or Hotdog.

Are 30-day trials available of FrontPage? If so, I've never seen one...
They seem to be pretty rare

Interesting. I have a 45 day trial for FrontPage here on my desk. It came on 2 CDs.
AceHTML is an under-appreciated editor. Its very powerful and easy to get the hang of, and its many features speed up site-building a lot. It basically does the same thing as 1stPage 2000 but in a different way.

I believe the 45 day trial frontpage2000 cd's that you are referring to are ordered from microsoft. Just found the link,
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office/trial_cd.htm
Dreamweaver3 is MUCH better (imho) than frontpage. Not as easy to use at first, but there are plenty of tutorials around. It offers far more control over the content, and the trial version (30days) can be downloaded free at

I don't like FP much. I love Dreamweaver.
Still, I think that FrontPage is a good way to start off...once you've become good with HTML your best bet would be using FP2000 if you wanted to use a WYSIWYG editor.

And FP2000 has far more features than DW3. I know what I'm talking about... I have both programs on my sytem and tried almost all features of both programs. You can use DW3 but please don't state things like 'DW3 has more features and gives you more control'...

I've used FrontPage for a long time (since FP 98 came out) and I will say that Dreamweaver can do a lot more. I used FrontPage 2000 until early this year. I've used Dreamweaver for about 8 months, less than FrontPage. Why did I switch? Because it is faster to do work in DW and it DW simply does things better than FrontPage (IMO).
Both editors come close when it comes to features, but DW can do more. Neither editor is perfect, but I think that DW is a LOT better.

Well Aidan, how can a program which is 80% smaller in filesize can have more features than FP2000. Explain that to me
Give it up. :-)

I'll go ahead and say it, Nicky
MS has been known to make bloatware. The programs that Microsoft make are great (and usualy the best of its kind) but there is no real reason for an editor to be more than 30MB. Think of all that code!
Another thing: it is not 80%....how much (in size) is your FrontPage folder?

DANG! I can't find it... Well I'll keep searching
I haven't found any feature (except SSI) that FP2000 hasn't has that DW3 has.
I don't like the SSI feature in DW because it changes stuff. Therefore I just add it in my html in FP.

BTW you can easily download a demo of DW at for example download.com so why not a demo of FP?
About the difference in size of FP and DW: Size means nothing. Since FP is so huge, I'd think that FP is just really inefficient coded since DW can do the same things while the program is really small.
Ever tried K-Meleon? This is a tiny, Gecko-based browser for Windows. It can do the same things as IE and NS while it's faster and MUCH smaller in size (2.5 MB)
Comparing the size of a program is nuts. Then you're only looking at Quantity, not Quality, which is far more important.

freesources: changes stuff up?
I'll make a list of things that each editor doesn't have, but when I have both programs installed and open at the same time.
Hope to do it soon.

Freesources - don't want to get into a silly debate here. I too have full versions of BOTH products, and have designed sites using both. Perhaps I haven't given FP enough of a chance, but as I said, it was only MY opinion, not gospel. To say that FP must be better than DW3 because it has a bigger file size is ridiculous - it could just be bloated coding - something ms is known to be guilty of. I think that the site management function on FP is too restricting, that combined with the need for server-side FP extensions for certain functions makes it the poorer product, again, in my opinion.
H
ps: having said that, I believe that neither can currently substitute a good knowledge of html - something I am striving daily to improve.
