    changes in php.ini file not showing in phpinfo.php

    I'm stumped. I recently bought Kevin Yank's book "Build your own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL" (and it is very good) but I've run into a problem I can't figure out.

    I'm running Apache 1.3 with PHP 4.2 on Windows XP home. I made changes to the php.ini but if i run the phpinfo.php to see the configuration it doesn't show the changes are made.
    Specifically these are the changes I made to the .ini file ...

    register_globals=On
    magic_quotes_gpc=On
    doc_root= (root to htdocs)

    but they don't show in the phpinfo configuration. Oddly the extension_dir, which I also updated in the php.ini file does show properly in the configuration.

    Any ideas? I expect that this is why I can't pass variable values from forms using the GET method to a php file. If I upload them to my host they do work properly.

    I'm stumped.

    In the page output by phpinfo(), the first block has a row for
    "Configuration File (php.ini) Path". Make sure the path listed here matches the path of the file you are editing.

    Also, make sure you are restarting Apache after editing this file, as the configuration settings are only read when PHP starts up.
