    Question www.mysite.com different from mysite.com?

    Hi All!
I am trying to repair a friends site that was on another hosting server, and thought that I had it figured out. NOT!

I was updating and replacing files, checking the whole way, and everything seemed to be fine. Evidently, I wasn't checking the extensions with the www. prefix.

So, in the interest of getting this done, I decided to upload the site files and try a test on my ServInt servers. Changed the "Hosts" file to reflect that, and...

    same problem.

The site in question is "BlueDolphinWalleye.com" (the good URL).

Upon typing in "www.bluedolphinwalleye.com" the site is redirected to a 'cannot find' page.

Is there something specific I can check? I just uploaded the base files (no databases) to my ServInt server, which gives me the impression that it isn't in the actual site files (I checked the .htaccess and changed as it was corrupted as well.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance,
    Erich

You may do one thing to give it a try. put a redirection of www. to without www. This should work perfectly.

    Hi owadmission,
I placed that re-direct in the cPanel and it seemed to work for me (Firefox, Chrome, Netscape (blast from the past!).

My associate on IE9 pulled it up and still has a problem - may be cache related.

Asked the customer to try, waiting for his response.

I think it will be OK, but what I would like to know - in the event I have to address this in the future - is what caused this to happen? A setting? Hacked file?

    THANKS for the suggestion!
