what is the best php code editor?

I use dreamweaver MX and I do not agree with the posts above this.
Frist is great to work when somebody is doing the designs and then you need to implement the programme. And second if you are keying your code in it doesn't add any funy caracters anywhere.
I wish macromedia gave the same importance to php as it does to asp so we could have more suport build in into the software. I also wish I knew how to use the snippets better and then the production times will greatly improve.

i agree with you that DW is a great tool for web designing...and developing the designs in groups..this is a nice advantage...
but when talking about php coding it's different. DW isn't a good tool for this task...
I recommend DW MX for designing the the html interface for your website... but when it comes to PHP i guess zend studio is the best

On windows I use editplus coz it kicks a** on linux I use Kate.

I have to agree with almuslet.

Dreamweaver is great for layout and design. I haven't worked with MX much but DW 4 didn't support syntax highliting very well for PHP. And the indentions didn't do as well as I liked.

Has DW improved its XHTML standards any since DW4? They weren't really good back then.

Another problem I have with using DW for PHP is that it's such a hugemonsterous program to use. If I'm just wanting to edit something it takes a few precious seconds to open And don't get me started on the FTP program it comes with.

DW MX hasn't been the most stable program the few times I've used it either.

I don't trust the PHP a computer program generates for me. I want to know excactly what's happening in there so I can make it do just what I want.

That Zend studio program sounds pretty Phatt. I'm gonna have get a look at it sometime and see how good it really is.

I agree with the last posts regarding DWMX!

Yesterday instaled Homesite+ that comes with DWMX copy and found out a really nice coding program, so DWMX is for my sister and I stay with Homesite+

In my opinion, h belive that the best editor is the one which gives you the flexibility and make you comfortable in your working, even if it's the notepad!

Dreamweaver == Bloatware == slow to load

If you are an intermediate web designer then I guess Dreamweaver (or any other WYSIWYG ) is for you.

I admit to using DW when I first started, but now my work demands a tool that will let me get in and out of a file without messing with a bunch of toolbars, etc.. cluttering the desktop.

Personally, I keep going back to Editplus. The last editor I tried was PHPedit which crashed on me within a few minutes of using, and also loads files slowly compared to Editplus. Ultraedit is another good alternative IMHO.

I personaly find Zend Studio Plus to be the best PHP editor i have used.
I am the proud owner of my own copy, i'll never look back

1) I love dreamweaver, and where I work, that's everybody's choice. It loads just fine on my laptop, with Zend Studio open, and I know several professionals that use it.

2) I am also a Zend Studio Plus license holder, and it's one of the best app's I have ever used
