What is the best web based manager to use that would be eazy for my clients to understand and run? Is there anything wrong with Listbot?

I use Topica.com as my newsletter manager. I've used Listbot before, I think Topica is a lot better, IMO. The main reason I think Topica is better is they can be ad-free and you can manually add subscribers.

Listbot is pretty good. I use on a couple of sites. It allows you to collect information about your subscribers, where most services don't.

I have heard from other sources though, that Listbot does tend to discourage people from signing up. I'm considering going to a script or using my mailing list management software on my server to test this theory out.

    Thanks,
I was thinking about Topica.com and I will look into it!

    Mike,
I checked out your bikers website. Very helpful! I have an 87 Honda Huricane and was rear-ended the other day but I only suffered a little neck pain. The bike is in need of some help. The insurance is rolling out the red carpet for me. Your site was timely and helpful!
    Thanks again,
    Mike

    Mike,

Wow, thanks a million! I am really smiling! I'd love it if you were to post that positive comment in our forum! Did you sign up for our newsletter?

I too got rear ended on my '93 FXDL (Harley Lowrider) back in Febraury. Nothing major, but the insurance company rolled out the red carpet once the found out that I knew a little something. The article that was submitted to us by Dan Baldyga really helped me, too!

Thank you so much for the kind words!

    Mike

p.s. My username incorporates my bike's name into it. My bike is also know as a Dyna-Lowrider. Neat huh! My wife thought it up.

I would recommend against Egroups. In fact I am dropping them for my starting out newsletter. THey just got bought by Yahoo! and their first order of business is to notify list owners that they are doubling the number of ads on some lists. Of course you can go ad free for like 60 bucks a year but they have been experiencing delays in delivery, lost posts (personally experienced this on a medium traffic list) and other problems.

I am using www.dundee.net, which uses the Lyris list server. Its the same one that Sitepoint uses I believe. It does cost money, however, but seems well worth it. No ads, very automated, extensive administrative and user features.

If it helps your decision at all I've been experiencing major delays with Listbot today. I sent my newsletter out 7 hours ago and it still haven't "arrived" yet. I haven't heard anything from customer support yet either.

In general I like Listbot but today has been somewhat a nightmare and the fact that they are a relatively anonymous organization (no contact info, phone number, etc.) doesn't make it any easier.

Do you have a secret camara to watch me or something???

In fact I just switched my newsletter over to Topica so that I could have better control over it and be able to promote it better.

Does anybody out there host their own mailing list script?

I currently use RobMail and have a few hundred subscribers; and get 5 or 6 new ones every day... would it be better if I moved to Topica or something?

I don't like any of those big "free" things. I use my own script. (well, mailmachine, not "MY" own )

egroups used to be good when it was just an email group, I had a list on there from years ago, and then I log in just to see whats up and I find out that they were just about asking the people who signed up SS#. So I dropped them for listbot... and while listbot does have those questions YOU can decided which ones are asked, if any at all.

Is anyone having problems with ListBot at the moment? For the past week I've been getting this message:

"The server might be down, or it could be inaccessible because of a temporary problem. Please try again later. If you receive this message frequently, contact your system administrator."

How long can the server be down for?

Does anyone else get this, or am I suffering for being British? ;-)
