    Hi,

I was wondering if it is considered spam to sell a mailing list you own to someone else if you no longer plan to make use of it? Obviously it CAN be...but what if the subscribers are to be sold to a related list...can it be considered a "buy-out" or "takeover"...I'm assuming that if it is at all appropriate, a special mailer ought to be sent out to the list informing them of this and giving them ample time to unsubscribe...

This leads me to another question: what kind of prices are reasonable per subscriber? I have a mailing list of only about 600...is there some standard? IE: 10 cents a subscriber?

You should certainly send an e-mail out NOW informing users how they can unsubscribe, what the new newsletter is, why it's different, and why it has the same high-quality content. They will certainly get mad if they don't get notified of the switch.

I think it would be a good idea to sell the list.

Make sure that your visitors can cancel their subscription at any time.

Well, you should probably let your visitors unsubscribe before selling the list. Otherwise, it'd be considered SPAM (but hey... if you are selling the list, it won't be your problem anymore)...

As for the price... if the subscribers are 100% OPT IN and if most of the email addresses are active, I guess you can charge 10-15 cents per sbscriber.

If you really need money, you can sell the same databse to several people but for $60-100 bucks, I don't think that it'd be fair to the subscribers.
