Chrome vs. IE 8 Transparancy

If you view the two Images 3 and 4.png attachments you will notice near the top of the map in Chrome it has a transparency with black text that cannot bee seen on a background image.

In IE 8 this is not transparent?

Same stylesheet for both of them.

I cannot use a backgroung image with the same dimenshions as #maincontent because if it's a dark background some dark text will not be visible.

Vice versa for a light background image

There are similar footer issues also.

Is there a hack or something I can use to correct this?

I'm not really sure what you are asking here. Why have you applied transparency if you don't want it or is that done through the third party code?

We'd need to see a live page anyway to see what's going on and why IE8 is different from Chrome. Does the page have a valid doctype? That might be one reason why IE8 is different.

I have not applied anything at all. Heck - I would not know how to apply transparancy!

The map search is supplied from a third party, MarketLinx but it is the exact same page for all browsers.

I know the little "> at the end ot the object probably shoudn't be there but without it the is a valadation error which says that <div footer isn't part of the object.

I've had a real problem closing the </object>

HTML without the CSS being applied to it is like CSS without the HTML -- gibberish. Again, Paul said a LIVE page of it... Incomplete snippets we're just guessing wildly in the dark.

Though since the text that's coming across as transparent is NOWHERE in the HTML you posted... I'd think it was a problem with the object embed.. which to be honest looks like broken gibberish and/or an invalid URL... though that's par for the course with a lot of these 'object based' maps.

I'm still not sure what you are asking here

The white background in IE8 is the background of the iframe which it renders as white unless you add allowtransparency="true" to the iframe tag.

If you want both browsers to have a white background then just a white background to the mapsearch container.
