The map search is supplied from a third party, MarketLinx but it is the exact same page for all browsers.
We'd need to see a live page anyway to see what's going on and why IE8 is different from Chrome. Does the page have a valid doctype? That might be one reason why IE8 is different.
Here is the html page - which by the way passed a valadation 100%! I can't believe it.

I know the little "> at the end ot the object probably shoudn't be there but without it the is a valadation error which says that <div footer isn't part of the object.
I've had a real problem closing the </object>
