Getting started with Facebook shop

How exactly does one get started setting up a Facebook shop? I've searched around and all I've really found is companies to do it for you but, as a web developer, I shouldn't need to pay someone else to do it. But there's not a lot of info I can find.

So far as I can tell, setting up a shop isn't a functionality that Facebook provide, but they do enable to you use iframes which will show content on your site. Is that right? And all of the processing would go on on your own site?

Would someone be able to point me in the right direction or maybe give a link to somewhere that does, because I'm a bit stumped!

Well it's good to know I learned something today ;-)
But I don't get how to put an iframe and a 'shop' link on my page.

You need to create an iFrame application. This should get you started...
