    HTML browser for Lotus Notes

    Hi,

    One of my clients subscribers receiving their HTML newsletter is complaining that the background color of the EMail is white and that it makes the yellow text very pale, even though I've specified the background as blue both in the body of the document, and as a layer covering the entire background of the document.

    The subscriber is using Lotus Notes, and so I was wondering if anyone know what this applications uses for displaying HTML Email. Does it have its own built-in browser, or does it make use of IE? And what could be causing this problem? Here is an extract of the Email source code:

    Code:
    <HTML>

    <head>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <META content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0" name=GENERATOR>
    <STYLE></STYLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY bgColor=#ffffff
    background="http://www.lunt.no/bilder/bakgrunn.jpg">
    <div id="Layer" style="position: relative; width:100%; height:100%; z-index:0; left: 0; top: 0; background-color: #296994; layer-background-color: #296994; visibility: visible;">
    <DIV><FONT face="Tempus Sans ITC" size=6></FONT>
    </div>
    </BODY></HTML>
    Thanks in advance !
    Sincerely,

    It could be the internal Lotus Notes browser or an external browser depending on how his Notes installation is configured. However that's for browsing web pages. I didn't know that Notes even supported HTML email.

    Notes also has a slightly non-standard colour palette and to make things even more confusing its functionality differs fairly widely across versions (due probably to the 2-3 year upgrade cycle).

    At the end of the day, you're probably better off asking this question on the forums at Notes.net - that's where all the Notes gurus hang out

    Hi hillsy,

    Thanks for the tip. I've now made a post in the Notes forum. However, if anyone here have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Can't imagine the Notes crew being as helpful as us Sitepointers.
    Sincerely,
