Apache on XP Home Edition (confused!)
Having no fun trying to install Apache on my XP home machine. I bought the book by Kevin Yank. XP home does not support IIS, so downloaded Apache 2.XXX. First install went fairly well and actually worked once. Then I must have made an error installing php and/or mysql.(http://localhost worked once, then failed) I foolishly uninstalled everything and tried again. Now, I get "no services installed" from apache. I only want to use this as a developement machine as I have sites that I can upload working code. I chose the server option when installing. A mistake ? I also left the httpd.conf file from the first install. Another mistake ? Any suggestions for a dummy ? I am way over 13 years old and will not quit. A push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I fixed it. Not sure what went right, but this is my fix. Downloaded the .msi version for windows. (who knew an msi extension would run like an exe - errrr - not me) But before I ran it, I removed the entire Apache folder(from the previous installs) in program files. Now, it is running. Now for mysql and php. The sql server is running, but not sure about php stuff. Back to the book. I am sure this dummy will post again.
