The menu in the very middle with the links needs to be centered under the heading. Below that there is a big white space. I think everything under the top menu and above the main body should be removed. And the text under the banner in the top menu should be removed.

    Hi,

This reply is not really about my site called the Web Site Resource, but it is about one of my sites that I just launched yesturday. It is at devstorm.com . Go there and tell me what you think.

Oh yeah, I already know that in some resolutions there is a little bit of horizontal scrolling. I am going to fix that asap.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I would highly recommended adding rounded corners to your tables, I have yet to see a site thats made worse due to smooth corners!

    Hi,

Just ignore the design at Free Web Site Tools. I did that in like 10 minutes and I only did that to get some kind of design up. It will look much better in the future.

The only thing I have to say is, too many advertisements flashing around.

The key word is simplify... no need to expand if you don't want to. Drop down menu - java, html dependent... it doesn't matter but I always like ways to make things smaller.

    Hi,

I agree with both of you and we are taking both of those things very seriously in the new design we are working on.

    Hi,

Here is a template I made that I think you guys will like: http://www.wsresource.com/testindex.html .It loads quicker than the previous versions of the site and it is a lot more simpler.

Let me know what you think.

Still a bit chubby on the filesize; it's 19k. You could easily reduce that by removing all double spaces and line breaks.

I like your site, it looks professional to me. The only thing I didn't like was the popup windows when traveling the links, but I understand the theory behind that.

I even found some stuff I was looking for from your site.

Big improvement...the head logo is a bit too flashy...cool looking and all, but not as professional as I could/should be.

Major improvement and a fine design...

    Hi,

Just wanted to mention that my resolution is set at 800x600 and I still had to scroll horizontally. Perhaps you would want to set the table width at 100%, set the left and right columns at whatever fixed width you desire, and then let the center column adjust to whatever it needs to. Then it would fit on any monitor size without scrolling. Just a thought. Keep up the good work!

    Take Care,

    Adam

    Hi,

I made quite a bit of changes to the site: http://www.wsresource.com/ . Let me know what I can fix or change to the site to make it better. Also, I would appreciate any feedback about what else I should add to the site to make it better.

    Thanks!

Nice colour chosen but the header seems a bit light weight compared to the rest of the page.
The top of the white portion does not fit in well with the curve boxes by the side.
The colour scheme of the bevel of the title in shades of gray does not look profesional in comparision with the rest of the layout.
Sory for our critical analysis of the site's design but then again it may be just the view of us.

If I didnt know better your website logo is ALMOST exactly like sitepoint.com.Also the blue and black doesnt work at all but the overall navigation is really good.

Wow, this topic is ON FIRE... I am sure the owner of the site is getting many good, constructive opinions!
Good start to the design, but two things. Lose the top graphics. They aren't very good, improve them. Make ME remember those graphics several months from now. The nav. to the left: I would think that well done javascript would look nice. That's about all I have time to write now. Good luck

Nice design. The only things I could find were minor.

    They were:

    Logo and Title
They would be better closer together. Maybe it is just me at my resolution (1280x1024) but the logo and the "Web Site Resource" graphic are pretty far apart. It makes the logo seem out of place.

    Font Not Specified
On the hamster advertising area (bottom right), the "Webmasters: Check out this program!" text doesn't have a specified font, and looks out of place. The same thing applies to the "Advertise On This Site" text at the bottom of WSR.

    Too many graphics
While I know that the two of you (Chris and Eric) like to have lots of graphics on the sites you make, I think that you have overdone it a little this time. For each heading (Latest Articles, Featured Resources, WebmasterWire, News Feed, and Free Web Site Tools), there is a seperate graphic. Why not have bold the title text and have just one icon to the left of it for each title? This would cut down tremendously on load time.

    Too much spacing
I think there is too much spacing to the right and left of the content area (the white cell). Also to the extreme right and extreme left, there is too much spacing between the navigation/tools and the edge of the screen. That is valuable space that could otherwise be used for content.

    HTML Optimization
You need to shrink your HTML, it will help a lot. There is a free program (I got it at download.com) that will remove all the extra spaces in your pages. Now my site averages in at 5k/page in HTML. WSR is 19KB in HTML, which isn't too bad, but it could be much better. When you add the graphics on the site, the main page totals out to be 69KB - this is not good at all. 40KB in images is definately overkill. I don't know if you have optimized your images or not, but from the looks of it you need to.

Enough of my harsh words The content is what people come for, and that is what WSR serves. WSR delivers great content, and that's why I visit it regularly. Keep up the good work guys!
