You need to relook at your code of which the enter page is listed below. I think you have an error in there somewhere.

You need to break up the Image Map based navigation and add "Alt" attributes to the resulting smaller images. This will do two things. Make your page appear to load faster and allow people with images turned off or the blind to navigate your page.

You should also provide some sort of text based navigation as well.

OK, I redid the images so that it doesnt say IMAGES.com on all of them in Netscape (why did this happen, I dont knw) It looks much better in IE. I'm working on the sliced up images, and then I'll finish of the text. ANyone got any commnets, loading time, speed, colours.

I am using IE4 on a PC platform and checked it at 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. I am running on a DSL line.

First, it loaded quickly.

From the links and homepage, seems like the finished site will have a lot of relevant and interesting info for fans.

Couple things - I think it's been mentioned that the text color of the links in the image map is hard to read. I agree. Just isn't enough contrast between the brown text and red in the bg image. Maybe black? Maybe use a mouseover effect and have it turn white?

At high resolution especially, the text in the "Network" box to the right is very hard to read.

Also, at 800x600 and 640x480, had to scroll horizontally to see whole page left to right. I know some people ignore 640x480, but 800x600 is still pretty standard and it is a bit annoying to have to scroll horizontally. Without really spending a lot of time looking at your code, I can only suggest that you use a percentage based holding table and that the combined widths of any pixel defined cells or images appearing in the same row do not add up to more than approx. 780 pixels to keep everything on the screen at 800x600 or approx. 620 pixels if you want to make 640x480 users happy as well (remember the left scroll bar takes up about 20[?] pixels). I am not sure what the width of your banner ad is, so I am not sure if this will be possible with the image map and banner ad beside each other. Hope this made sense. May want to check with some more experienced people for better ideas.

I am a stickler for color and the red and orange text do not quite seem to match the colors in the image map. This is not a big problem and I only suggest this as a way of REALLY refining the site. I like to sample the image in my graphics program and get the hex# of the colors then use these to define the color of text so that colors match.

Also, get someone to proofread your site. No spelling problems jumped out at me, but punctuation could be better.

Percentage is simply a percentage of the user's screen...width is in actual pixels...a table that's set at 90% will take up nine-tenths of the browser window, no matter what screen size the person is using...a 700 pixel-wide table is always 700 pixels wide...

OK, I took out the little network box, and instead put everything that's there, as well as everything else down the bottom as text links. Thoughts??

I like the color scheme.

However, I agree with the earlier post, that at 640x480 I have to do a *lot* of horizontal scrolling. Just by moving the "Network" box that's at the far right, you'd eliminate much of the problem.

From the looks of the home page, you'll have the problem of adequate content conquered, which IMHO, is much more than half the battle.

Hi Adam,

A couple of pinters:

1) Anything other than blue for link colours damages usability - I realise that blue links will look terrible on this site 'cause of the black background, but I just thought I'd point out the obvious

2) It is fast - loaded in nothing flat

3)The image map to my mind is not working - it is just too difficult to read the text for the links

4)Also, "About Us" needs to be better positioned if you are trying to centre it

5)I'd put the email sign in box lower - where it is now it dominates the site TOO much

6) I'd centre the copyright stuff - it looks wonky where it is

7) No privacy statement - so why should anyone give you their email address - after all you may then sell it to K-mart!

Anyway, hope some of the above is of use

dr Gonzo

<TITLE>StaindNet.com- the unnoficial home of Staind online</TITLE>

I think 'unnoficial' should be 'unofficial'.
I also agree that the imagemap is very hard to read with brown on red, it almost scared me away from the site!
Change the colors of the imagemap and the annoying spelling-mistake and the site looks great.

Is it part of the design that the background of the imagemap has a darker color than the background of the page?
And the logo should stand on the place of the banner, I think, but that's up to you. It's a good place to be if you're a fan of Staind!

I thought the site looked very good. A few things though

1. On the image map, you migth want to try using a gif and making the dark black background transparent

2. Your picture images are out of proportion

3. What exactly would I be signing up for...you have a sign - up button, but no explanation of what I would be signing up for....

4. THe colors on the page look very good...nice color scheme

5. the submit image/button for where i would put my email address should be made a transparent gif where the background is transparent

6. on 800x600, I had to scroll to the right to see some of the page. (actually on a few words at the bottom paragreaphs to the rigth weren't showing)

Love the site!

A couple of tips. The navigation would look a bit better if you used changing images and mouseover script, though that is just my opinion.

Overall a promising site that should end up looking good.
