    Hello,

We want to know how YOU think about http://freesources.net

    (((((((((((((((( ))))))))))))))
Also review the new design I made: http://freesources.net/private/new
    (((((((((((((((( ))))))))))))))

Like the colors? Or hate them? What about the Flash animation or the navigation items?

I like your site and wish I could design as good as you. I think the flash animation is good since it looks good but doesn't take long to load at all. You have a unique navigation system that I really like.

    Hi,
I liked the page - particularly thec olours and clean and fast loading design. I didn't find the font too small though I like small type.

However I have the following points you may want to consider:
    1) Consider putting a ceiling on the number of times your flash loops - after 4 or 5 times it is just distracting.
    2) Consider changing "main page" to "home"
    3) Consider removing "IE5 recommended" and instead code your work so that it works well in all browsers.
    4) Non standard link colours are poor design - moreso when they do not reflect where a user has alredy been - as is the case with this site
    5) The privacy policy is in disclaimer. I would seperate these.
    6) There are quite a few typos in the disclaimer - spellcheck will not find everything "...If we do find content that doesn't meat our terms of use, it will be removed immediately. " (I liked that one!)

    Otherwise quite an interesting site.
    Cheers

The design looks good. I'm not too sure about the choice of colours though (the way the gray background flows between all the table cells looks somehow sloppy, although I know it was the effect you were after). Personally, I think the design could use another color, even if all you do is make all your links blue. Red, black and white just doesn't hold my interest.

To round out the design, I'd suggest making the bottom cell (with the copyright notice) red to match the top. It'll frame the page a lot better visually.

The text does look a little small, but was perfectly readable for me. You should definitely find someone with a Macintosh to try it out, though, as that platform is notorious for making small fonts unreadably small.

The page layout looks just plain BAD in Netscape. This is unacceptable in a Webmaster resource site (which is supposed to teach good site design practice). If we leave that aside for a moment, it can be okay to sacrifice compatibility at times to achieve a desired effect. You site, however, doesn't do anything in terms of layout that could not be done in Netscape just as well. You just need to work on your table code some more (post to the Web Page Design forum if you need help!).

Finally, and I hate to be picky, but you really need to work on the quality of language on your site. Let's take an example from your Authoring -> HTML page:

"We at freesources.net have some stuff about html here..."

Very unprofessional. It sounds as if you're bored. You can't get people excited about your site unless you sound excited yourself!

"Some tutorials, some nifty codes to cut&paste into your web page and some nifty links."

"Nifty" is the kind of word you can sometimes get away with using once without sounding silly. Twice in one sentence?

"HTML is getting more advanced and advanced."

I think you mean "more and more advanced".

"In the past year there were more than 30 new tags and attributes."

You really shouldn't make outrageous claims like this. As an experienced Web developer, I simply don't believe the above statement. That hurts your credibility, making it very hard for me to trust the rest of the information on your site.

These are just a few examples of the overall trend. If you want to write a site that professionals will read, you have to make sure you sound like professional writers.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your comments...

I'm updating now all my pages and I'll take a look at my texts. But English is not my maternal language so... When there is someone out there who would like to help me by checking spelling and correcting some texts... I would really appreciate it... It will just be 20 min. of work a week...

You can always contact me at freesources@softhome.net (I use this email to prevent my main address to be spammed).

Still thank you for all your comments and I'll see what I can do...

Nice site. I basically agree with the past comments. Here are some of my own

-i don't really like the red cell colour ; it seems to dark in contrast to the grey

-font is too small ; there are too many sections on the front page. put them into about 5/6 subsections - people will be more willing to go to them

    Thats it really.

I really like your site, the layout is excellent and the content is excellent. I hope you create more templates because the templates are really good.

I like how you have the information set up in categories, too.

Text size is only a problem for people who have a smaller font set as their default on their browser...one of the computers in my house is like this and you'd be surprised at how many sites have totally un-legible text with this setting.

And on a side note: Does anyone know of the release dates for the completed version of Netscape 6 and the release of IE 6 beta?

Not bad, but here are a few suggestions:

    1) I find the Flash logo sort of annoying, it probably distracts people from the rest of the site.

    2) I would work on the corners, make them smaller and smoother.

    3) Make the text size larger, for some people it may be too small.

    4) Make the design look right in Netscape!!! Any site should look right in all browsers, especially a WEBMASTER site.

    5) I am not sure if I like the gray background, try white.

Overall, it is a pretty good site.

    Hi,

Very nice looking site. And a nice newsletter, too!

Flash header is ok, not necessary, but I think it demonstrates a high technical expertise level on your part. I have to agree that the text is too small right now, and the pages are a bit too cluttered.

Only other thing I would recommend is adding more colors than red and white, so that red doesn't dominate so much.

    Great site!

    Thanks for the comments guys!

I don't think the text size is too small because I tried in different resolutions, on different computers, in different browsers and on different OS (Windows & Mac)

But anyway thanks and I will keep all those things in mind when I'm going to redesign the site at the end of this year (release IE and NS 6)

Windows Millennium? What the heck? Sounds cool.

Anyone have any interesting info on IE 6.0? At first I'd expect it to be a very small upgrade from 5.0, but now that I think about it they'll probably want to come out with some big improvements to try to trump Netscape's big return plans.

Yeah! Well I will never use a NS browser anyway...

About Windows Millenium: That's the next version after Windows 98. Windows 2000 was the upgrade of Windows NT and is not meant for those at home. But Windows Millenium is.

Very clean, concise, crisp organization. I have only a couple of suggestions. The flash is great (simple, clean, effective), but after two or three iterations it becomes distracting. And being extremely anal like I am about language, grammar, and spelling, the language missteps jumped out at me.

Overall very good. Quick download, clean design that is quite organized.

No.1 don't make the flash animation keep on running, it distracts the eyes. Take away the hyphens from the sides. Change the font to Arial. Colours are great they really enhance the site. Same with the flash, if you run it ONCE and once only.

KEep goin, I'm going ot use the site for sure!
