    Question Telnet Question

    Hi,

I've been using PHPMyAdmin and MySQL-Front for a while now, but I want to start using a proper interface so that I can get used to using the proper syntax.

I know I can use telnet, but it wont let me connect. I'm using WinXP and when I type "mysql -h hostname ...." it says it wont work, and that I have to type "o" to open a connection. I do so and type in the IP of my server, then it asks for a login and pass, which it never accepts.

Can anyone tell me if this is just because the server wont allow remote connections, and are there any other "telnet-like" programs I can use, so that I can learn MySQL better?

    Thanks in advance
    Luke

You have to telnet into the server than once you are at a command line you can open a connection to the MySQL server.

Telnet and MySQL are two different server daemons on the same machine. You cannot telnet directly into the MySQL Daemon.
