    Layers in dreamweaver

Im using layers in dreamweaver to put text over images so they are positioned extactly where i want it on the page.

The problem is when the browser is resized all the graphics moves and the layer stays in place and everything looks awful because the layer which contains the text is somwhere in the middle of the page over some other text.

How do i stop that happening? is there a piece of code to fix it or do i have to create the layer in any special way?

Just don't use layers in Drewamweaver. Generally a bad idea. And definitely do not convert layers to tables. That's another bad idea.

You should proably learn what layers really are and how they work before you try to let DW do it for you, and even then it may not be such a good idea.

    Megs,
I disagree. Though I don't use layers often, there are times when they are handy.

    jaffacake2000:
Try using absoulte positioning rather than relative. There are also some extensions for layers in Dreamweaver that really help when laying them out.

Javascripts and CSS also help when laying out layers, but this may be advanced if you are just beginning.

There are a lot of people really pushing for the use of layers in design. This site is one of them-->

    You'll find some tutorials there.

I'm not saying not to use layers at all - I'm saying that it's best to know what a layer actually is and how they work before you go and try to use one. IMO, using "layers" is much more complex than just drawing them in Dreamweaver. The people at A List Apart are in a completely different class - they know CSS inside out and are able to get the most out of it. It's a far cry from drawing boxes in DW.

jaffacake2000 - it would probably help if you posted a link to the page you're having problems with. My suspicion is that you've got an absolutely positioned layer overtop of a dynamically expanding layout (where your images are). So it might work if you fix the layout of the underlying images so they don't expand with the browser.
